Visa or Mastercards that give roadside assistance

Postby mtzo » Wed Nov 26, 2008 3:01 pm

Does anyone know if any of the Visa or Mastercards give free roadside assistance? I am thinking of canceling my AAA membership but want to make sure that between my credit cards I have enough free coverage for my entire family to cover any roadside assistance we might need. I had a car problem last year where I had to get my car towed three different times so it is something important to me that I need. I have the Amex platinum but I'm not sure how their roadside assistance program works and how much it covers.

Visa's is nice because there is no signing up needed just a pre-negotiated rate of $59.99.

Both Visa and Amex offer it. It's not free, though.

There is a discussion here about various programs Roadside Assistance WITHOUT AAA

How about roadside assistance from your insurance company? I've used Geico roadside assistance a number of times and have had no premium increase as a result. It's very inexpensive to have it.

AmEx Platinum roadside allows you 4 calls per year up to $50 per incident. I left my lights on last weekend and called. They were very quick and friendly.

So Amex covers up to $50 and anything over they charge the card?? (Lets say $100 total so Amex $50 and you chip in $50?)

Correct.

However, if you are like me, you may have multiple roadside companies. You can tell one to tow you up to $50 worth, then call another roadside company. Chase, Citibank, & Visa Signature all provide roadside for free.
