Citibank Dividend Account Online New Card Message

Postby CC Deville » Fri Aug 05, 2011 5:01 pm

I just logged onto my Citibank Platinum Select Dividend account online and there was a message stating that a new card was being mailed and that it should be received within two weeks.....

The current card does not expire until 5/2012. They usually do send the replacement a little early, but not nine months early.

Anybody else getting this message? The only thing I can think of is that the card was compromised and they are sending a new exp date and CVVD code (sometimes when a bank believes a card may have been compromised they will just change the exp date and CVVD code as opposed to a new account number) or they are just straight up changing all of these to World MasterCards (they tried to upgrade my account in 2008 and 2010).

And yes, I know I can call them, but I wanted to see if any of you had the same message first.

Thanks, Money Card. I should have been more specific; anybody else with a Citibank Platinum Select Dividend MasterCard getting this message?

Okay, so not that anybody responded to this here is what has happened:

Citibank has basically upgraded all Platinum Select Dividend accounts that qualify to World MasterCard (not sure about non student Visa Platinum Select Dividends). They attempted this several times in both 2008 and 2010 with many cardholder's upset about a new account number and the fact that World MasterCard's reported as Open with no available credit line. This has all changed...

The reason I received the notice of a new card is because my account is now a World MasterCard. The account number is not changing. Citibank up until recently was BIN specific and all World MasterCards had a BIN of 546616 and the Platinum was 542418. And starting in March 2011, Citibank began reporting all World MasterCards and Visa Signatures as Revolving with a credit line.

So if anybody else sees this message online regarding a new card that is what happened. Not to worry, nothing is really changing and now you will have concierge service.

The same thing happened to my account too. I would have preferred to stick with the Platinum Select, because I have too many no preset limit cards as it is. For me, the World MasterCard benefits aren't worth it. I would rather have the set credit limit. Although for those who don't already have Visa Signatures or World MasterCards, then the benefits can be a worthwhile advantage.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed and linked to. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Around March or April of this year Citibank began to report their World MasterCard and Visa Signature as Revolving with the credit line reporting.

And unlike in the past, they have begun to BIN mix so they didn't even change the account numbers.

They had so much backlash in 2008 and 2010 when they attempted to upgrade accounts to World that they made these changes (they report the limits and the account numbers did not change).
