I had tried this before and was told a new credit check would have to be done and I would get a new account with a different account number. I said screw it what's the point if it's a brand new credit card? If it was only the card and not the account I wanted, I could apply for it on my own and get a promotion for it.

I called back yesterday and the person I spoke to not a supervisor said it could take 30 days now In the interim I paid over 4k so the balance is zero 1 year ago I owed over 10k. I guess I have to wait and see the whole shame is 10k limit 7.99% interest rate and has been opened since 03 so if they can't re open no point in getting another card. when I called in the computer system asked me for a cell phone #. I have no heard from anybody yet requesting a credit report yet. don't know if this is a good sign.

Craig keep us updated on what happens. I don't remember seeing any posts on successfully opening closed accounts so if you are able to pull it off, it will be interesting for sure.

I contacted Universal card friday and they said they have such a back log of customers trying to re open accounts it could be up to 30 days I guess I'm not the only one that refused an interest rate increase. So I will wait patiently for the mail. Either a letter is coming or brand new credit cards we will see.

now citi is saying that because i closed my account over a year ago to do the rejection of interest rate increase because of the credit card act that legally the govt won't let them re open the account. has anybody heard of this or is citi politely telling me where to go.

That's interesting, who would have thought. The current rewards on the Universal card are not all that great are they? I wonder why so many are trying to re-open their accounts. I suppose for the same reasons you are.

well there is a silver lining I paid a bunch of debt off from universal, chase and capital one. Universal told me where to go about repoening the account chase and capital one refused to raise my credit lines. Bank of america sent me a visa signature card with a $7500 limit and Amex Cash raised my limit by 6k, go figure

So they finally stopped the run around and are giving you the opportunity to repoen the Universal card?
