Barclay Black Card experience

Postby AnimalLover » Tue Aug 15, 2017 10:00 pm

I had 3 accounts in excellent standing with Barclays. One was the Black card. This is what i found in my experiences with them:

1) they do not honor theft under the purchase protections. i had a police report about a leather jacket stolen in 60 days in a public place. I did what Assurant, who handles the purchase protection asked and they never reimbursed they way they advertise they will when you get the card. 2) every tine you request a credit increase through Barclay website, they do a hard pull and do not tell you. So after maintaining all 3 accounts in excellent standing , one day Barclay called me to tell me they were slashing my credit lines 75 % without telling me. To stem the credit damage i BT all 3 accounts and closed them, My credit score dropped 50 points. A friend, a cousin of Hillary Clinton, who had a credit score of 840 all of his adult life, had Barclay do the same thing to him but he didnt close the accounts and his score dropped 225 points. We have both spoken to our senators and to the Senate Banking committee about houw Barclays is hurting credit of excellent customers . In addition, i had paid the $500 annual fee but was forced to close it halfway through not by my choice but to stem severe credit damage.Barclay would not refund the unused 6 month portion of the fee.

Why did they deny the theft claim? Or they just let the claim die without ever getting back to you?

They are known for HP online CLI requests. You should always assume a CLI request (or application) will require a HP unless you know the issuer's practices well - and even when you expect a SP, know a HP is possible. Calling them can sometimes give SP CLIs.

If they called you to tell you about the CLDs, then it wasn't without telling you. They told you. That's more than many banks will do (though many banks may be less likely to CLD in the first place). If you're worried about inquiries, only ask for CLIs when you really need them.

How percentage of your credit was with them? What was your utilization on the accounts? And for your friend? 50 points is a lot, and 225 borders on disbelief.

I'm not sure how excellent your credit standing is if you couldn't pay the accounts off and had to BT them.

Story has a lot of holes and whether or not it's true, it wasn't illegal so complaining to a senator isn't going to do anything.
