First real UR redemption

Postby TXviking » Wed May 10, 2017 2:55 am

I just redeemed points for a round-trip flight from the US to Norway on Lufthansa. Set me back 56000 points out of the 100000 I got when I signed up for the CSR. (Not to mention I also already got the full value of my $300 travel credit.)

You know, I think that $450 AF just paid for itself and then some.

Nice! Did you redeem by using your points in the UR portal, or a partner transfer?
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

UR portal. I looked into partner transfer, but that actually proved rather difficult. British Airways and Air France were the only two carriers whose web sites even allowed me to search for flights from DEN to OSL, and British Airways made me do it one segment at a time to see the redemption cost -- which was higher than 66,000 Avios, although not by a whole lot.

Virgin Atlantic allows the search, but their search engine comes back with no flights between Denver and Oslo. Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer won't even let me search for that flight, which kind of throws a wrench into my plan to use KrisFlyer to book award flights on Star Alliance member airlines without going through United. (I've cancelled my United FF account completely.)

I see. I figured it had to be UR portal or transfer to United, but I'd forgotten you ditched United completely. I don't have a lot of experience with searching on alliance partners, and I had no idea it was such a pain with some of them. 56k points round trip is NOT bad for Norway, though, no matter how you cut it.
