Those transactions will probably be treated as cash advances, and most cards only allow a certain portion of the limit to be used for cash advances.

So you probably can't use all $3,500 in a casino.

Just don't do it. You'll get charged interest from the second it posts because it is a cash advance.

If someone has already decided to gamble in a casino (and can afford to lose the money), a day or two of interest seems small in comparison if the convenience makes the experience more enjoyable. Not all cards even charge cash advance fees or have a cash advance APR above the purchase APR.

Hopefully OP is asking for reasons of convenience rather than financial desperation linked to a gambling addiction.

Most likely no.

Credit cards have a separate cash advance limit based on your credit line. You can normally find this on your statement. For instance, my Amex card has a $13,000 credit line, but only $1,200 is for cash advances.

Generally, most credit cards are unwilling to provide a lot of credit line for cash. I suspect you only have about a $300-$500 cash advance credit line.

I've seen people do this in Vegas. It is usually not a good look or idea.

The card issuers frown upon using their credit cards for gambling, especially American Express. I've heard a gambling cash advance/charge to their card puts you at high risk for a financial review. Use a debit card and get cash out of the ATM.

You should be spending your own money for gambling, not someone else's money (the bank's), even if you'll be able to pay it back within a few days.

Everyone's response in this thread has been along the lines of "don't do it!"

I happen to agree with this stance. After fees and interest, you're most likely going to have to pay your winnings back (and it's very hard to win).

Even with all that being said, cash advances are very popular at casinos and racetracks. I work at a racetrack/casino, and a lot of people leave their cards in the ATM. The machine eventually does take the card, or someone will hand it over to security. I have seen some of the cards left in ATMs, and they're most often credit; I have even seen an Amex Business Platinum.
