Amazon Prime Credit Card

Postby darkguy2 » Thu Jan 12, 2017 3:03 pm

Amazon just came out with an updated credit card.

https://www.amazon.com/iss/credit/rewar ... 6754a1588b

It is a Visa Signature card and is metal. 5% back on Amazon (if Prime member, 3% otherwise), 2% on gas and restaurants and drug stores, and 1% on everything else. It is a chase card so it will be interesting to see if the 5/24 rule applies for this card.

Looks interesting. Will probably get it after my Sallie Mae is PCed.
Discover IT - $5,700
Chase Freedom - $5,700
Costco Citi - $13,000
Sallie Mae - $4,000
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $6,000
Chase Sapphire Reserve - $19,500
Citi Double Cash - $6,500
Amex BCE - $13,000

FICOs: Discover (777), SallieMae (764), Amex (767), Citi (772)
FAKOs: CK- TU (760), EQ (760)

Yeah, my card was automatically switched. It will probably get more use now. I used to somewhat plan my Amazon purchases around Discover's 5% period. I won't have to do that anymore.

I haven't really been using my Amazon card that much as I've been using others to hit minimum spend. So, I transferred all but $500 of my credit line to my Freedom. Given that this is a Visa Signature card, I'm wondering if I'll get a defacto credit limit increase to the $5k minimum, or if I'll just be grandfathered in. with my still-current line of $500.
Main Cards:
Amex: Ameriprise Plat, Surpass
Chase: Hyatt

Sock drawer Cards:
Amex: HHonors
Chase: Amazon Rewards, Freedom
Citi: Macy's Amex, Simplicity, ThankYou
Citizens Bank: Cash Back Plus World
Discover: it
Elan: Bank Rewards
Synchrony: PayPal

My experience is that you would get the rewards but your card won't be a Visa Signature. When I first got my Amazon Visa, it was under 5K and while I had the regular rewards (3% etc.), my card wasn't a Siggy.

That's what I was figuring.

When I applied for the card they only gave me a $1,300 limit and it was still a sig card. I guess I hit my internal limit with Chase. I just transferred some limits from the other cards to get it up to $5K.

Did anyone actually get their cards yet? I got the mail from Chase that it would be coming and that I would get the same benefits with my current card in the meantime, but I'm curious to see if it will actually be a Signature card ...and if it'll be metal.

(Updated: Yes, I meant Chase. Citi does not issue these cards and never has. I'm just a scatterbrain.)

I'm thinking about pc'ing my Chase Marriott card to the Amazon Prime, as I don't use it enough to justify the annual fee (despite the free anniversary hotel night). Does anyone know if there are any issues with trading from a fee card to one with no annual fee?

I don't know if it's an "absolutely/almost never" or "generally not" thing, but Chase has a reputation for being inflexible about PCing cobrand cards.

In your shoes, I'd call and ask...but keep my expectations low.
