Mastercard/Wendys charity promo

Postby 1bootcamp » Sat Aug 02, 2008 10:59 pm

I was at a Wendys in Ohio and they had a thing at the register that said "Pay with your Mastercard and a donation will be made to_____" It was some charity. This is actually a good idea for Mastercard. Think how many people will choose to pay with their Mastercard instead of another one when they pull out a card to pay? If someone has a Visa and a Mastercard and they use both regularly I would predict most people will pull out the MC when they see this.

I'm sure they give less than a penny per transaction but it is good marketing nonetheless.

That is good marketing.

Like you said though, I doubt they give much to charity. I don't like how some of these companies pretend they're donating to charity when in reality they are only giving 1/1000th of the profit they are making on those transactions. I don't think 0.01% or less should be labeled "portion of profits donated to charity." I have no idea what theirs is, I'm just saying that in general about corporate America and their "charity" donation advertising.

Wendys is yummy :D

Kinda similar to something I saw at Target. It was a cooler but the packaging was all covered with some breast cancer logos and by the looks of it you would think they are only selling it for charity. You pick it up and read the fine print and it says "Our company supports ____ charity and $15,000 has been donated" LOL $15k for millions of products in stores all over the country? That works out to be a fraction of a penny for every $19.95 cooler sold. I would hardly call that charitable!!!!!

target gives 5% of earnings to charity or at least they use to and that's why i shop ther over wal-mart. all the other businesses that say they give to charity are mostly only giving penauts so they can say they give to charity when its nothing more than a marketing ploy. thats why you need to read the fine print with everything!
