CSR Travel Credit Warning

Postby darkguy2 » Sat Dec 10, 2016 10:38 am

Just thought I would post this to warn anyone about how Chase defines the calendar year for the travel credit. You have to use the full $300 amount before you get your statement in December or else it is lost and it resets. So I got my statement on December 5th and it reset for me which sucks because I planned a vacation next week that will wipe out my credit for next year. I think I had only gotten reimbursed for a $5 parking charge up until now so I did not take full advantage of it.
Discover IT - $5,700
Chase Freedom - $5,700
Costco Citi - $13,000
Sallie Mae - $4,000
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $6,000
Chase Sapphire Reserve - $19,500
Citi Double Cash - $6,500
Amex BCE - $13,000

FICOs: Discover (777), SallieMae (764), Amex (767), Citi (772)
FAKOs: CK- TU (760), EQ (760)

That's some pretty lousy fine print. :( Important to know, though.

I imagine Chase is trying to trim their costs related to the program, as CSR is taking a big bite out of their corporate profits. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... in-quarter

Wow, good to know. I think most reasonable people would think, "Any charge I make through Dec. 31 would count toward my credit for that year."

I don't have the card, but if I do that, I'll keep this in mind.
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

I've generally apped for "annual credit" cards in the middle of the year. More by coincidence than design, but it does mean there's no rush to use the credit at either end.

TPG says the Prestige credit works the same way as CSR...which would make sense, since I got mine as one $250 credit when the statement closed, not a few days later (like Plat/PRG).
