Citi CLI x2

Postby PhillyPhoto » Wed Sep 07, 2016 8:09 am

I signed up for the Amex HHonors 75k bonus, and got a starting CL of $8k. Chase blocked me from the CSR due to being 10/24 at the time, so I looked at Citi, and nothing really stood out too much, except the Citi HHonors (75k bonus through the HHonors site), but I want to finish my Amex min spend first. The Simplicity had 21 months 0% on balance transfers, so I applied and only got $3300 with that. I was a little disappointed with that, but looking around, a lot of people got some good CLI at activation, so I figured I would wait to get the card and see what I could do. It took another HP, but I got a CLI to a total of $10k! This is my first card to ever hit $10k, so I figured I would try my ThankYou Pref, which had been sitting at $9700 ever since I transferred my old Diamond Preferred CL. I did the income/rent and got another $1200 for a total of $10,900. The TYP was a soft pull, and the Simplicity a HP, but worth it. I ended up transferring my Freedom balance, which after looking at my statement was under the promo 0% until the 16th, so I won't be paying any interest until 2018 (which it should be paid off by then). I'm hoping to do the 3x CLI on the Amex in November, and that should put me at $24k (best case). Slow and steady definitely pays off in the CC game, and I would have never thought I could have been at 2 cards @ $10k a year ago (especially Citi).

it only gets better. and you have some decent scores in your profile.

you'll be walking around with $20K cards sooner than you think

Possibly...but to get $20k CLs on the cards you really want them on, keep in mind that income may be a big factor (issuer and profile-dependent).

You don't state your income, but you do say you just did a BT, so I'm guessing income may be as much of a limiting factor as your scores are at present.
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt
May close or PC: Prestige, Arrival, BrooksBros
AA Platinum converting into Costco

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
Letting new accounts cool off since May

I'm around $65k/yr now with bonuses. I'm perfectly fine with a few $10k cards, and don't expect to have 6 $20k+ cards. I'm looking to possibly close a couple to lower my overall exposure, but I don't want to drop it too much/too soon and have my utilization jump up too. I could close 3 and equal my new limits at citi, but I would be back at the same ratio I was a couple weeks ago. It's that balancing act that can be hard to gauge at times.

$65k is fine as long as your utilization is low. a friend of mine has multiple $15k cards with stated income of just $50k
