Chase Amazon Visa Upgraded to Signature or not?

Postby im_mr_awesome » Tue Aug 02, 2016 7:13 pm

So I logged in to Chase, and I don't think I ever put these two things together. I see "You now have Visa Signature Benefits" and "Your card has been upgraded to Visa Signature benefits..." with a link to https://www.chase.com/card-benefits/amazonsig/travel

So two things on this: my Amazon Visa card has a CL below $5k, and it's a Visa Platinum.

What gives? I probably wouldn't use many/any of the VS benefits, but I'm curious how/why Chase would be giving VS benefits without just upgrading the card to a VS?

Has this happened to anyone else? Is Chase just moving everything to VS to make way for Infinite?

This is my guess: Since Visa (not Chase) is offering these "Signature Benefits", it probably does not matter to to J.P. Morgan Chase either way. The bank makes the important decisions as to your credit limit, your interest rate, and (probably) what tier of customer service you receive on your account. Since there still is no real "Visa Elite" available in the United States as yet from a major bank, the point is moot anyway as far as an upward conversion from Visa Signature to Visa Elite. I personally don't take much advantage of Visa Signature or World Mastercard perks. On the other hand, you can have a half dozen Signature or World/World Elite accounts, and still not get a "soft credit ceiling" feature on your account (essentially turning your card into a "charge card" instead of a "credit card". That kind of perk is up to the issuing bank, and how well they know you.

While I agree with most of the first response, I would think more likely it's that they get to charge a higher discount rate (swipe fee) to the vendor with the Visa Signature than a Visa Platinum AND most consumers / cardholders will at least perceive the "upgrade" as both a benefit to them and a positive change in their relationship with the bank.

That's my guess. But probably a combo with the other post as well.
Amex - BCP, Platinum, Business Gold
BoA - BankAmericard Cash Rewards
Chase - Freedom, CSP, RC, Ink Plus
Citi - DC, Prestige

Agreed that the primary goal is higher fees from merchants. Marketing a luxury image is a secondary goal.

It sounds like the card already has been upgraded to VS, but the replacement plastic that says "Signature" just hasn't arrived yet in the mail. I doubt it's considered a priority for expedited shipping.
