New MasterCard logo coming

Postby CC Deville » Sun Jul 17, 2016 10:01 am

I was reading an NBC LA news article this morning about a Philadelphia woman found dead in the trunk of her car. Anyway, below that article was a blurb about MasterCard's new logo. Seems that MasterCard is updating their logo this fall after 20 years of the current design. The interloping circles in the familiar red and yellow remain; however, "MasterCard" font is now all lowercase and will be below the interloping circles instead of inside them. This new logo will eventually make its way onto our cards as well. I like it enough, but I would prefer it if the "mastercard" font was in the circles instead of underneath the circles.

Here is an article about it as well as a video:

Also this year, MasterCard, or mastercard, is introducing account numbers that will begin with the number 2 in addition to the number 5. It seems they are running out of BIN's beginning with 5 so they have found it necessary to use 2. What is weird is that mastercard only currently uses 5100-5599; I do not know why they do not use 5000-5999 before they do something crazy like using a 2. Visa has 4000-4999.....

I had not seen this information here or on MyF*co so I thought I would share if anybody was interested.

Why does everyone think their logo needs to be in all lowercase letters? This has been happening for years now, and it seems like people in marketing are just too lazy to hit the Shift key on their keyboards.

Hopefully anyone that writes any kind of code for credit card validation sees the note about them adding "2" now as well.

Inspired by email addresses and such, perhaps? I dislike it, but I disliked the 1980s trend of DOING EVERYTHING IN UPPERCASE LETTERS BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT COMPUTERS LOOKED LIKE even more.
