Citi Costco - Day One

Postby TXviking » Mon Jun 20, 2016 10:28 pm

Today is the cutover day for the AmEx to Citibank cutover at Costco. Sure enough, I logged into my AmEx account and that card is no longer listed. Fortunately, I already downloaded all my previous statements; not sure if I'll receive a final one by mail or if all transactions for this statement period become Citi transactions. Judging from the Citibank portal, which shows transactions all the way back through June 8th, I suspect the latter.

Speaking of the Citibank portal, registration is a bit annoying. They want a complicated password, but when you set it up, they don't allow copy/paste, nor did the OnePass plugin seem able to access the field. So I had to type my new password in manually, and twice for verification. This is more error-prone than using a password manager, but some companies insist. Fortunately, password managers and copy/paste do work when logging in with the new credentials later on, so this is a one-time annoyance.

I give props to Citibank for encouraging customers to choose a "security word" when signing up, rather than using "mother's maiden name". Still exploring the portal; so far it doesn't look like anything special, but it seems functional enough.

I'll try a transaction with the card later today or tomorrow just to verify it works. That won't be at Costco though.

Tried calling customer service. After a lot of recorded messages about "heavy call volumes" related to new Costco customers, the system tells me to "call back later" and then hangs up on me.

Yep, that's the Citibank I remember.

Yeah, I ran into the same thing with 1Password. Annoying but no big deal.

Will miss the Costco AMEX account. Time will tell if the Costco CITI VISA is worth keeping. Unlike AMEX, CITI takes way longer to process charges and payments.

My Double Cash shows payments same day, even if sitting in pending. I suspect it should be the same for the new Costco Citi cards?

Is the account even accessible from the standard citi website?

Yes. I have my Double Cash, Diamond Preferred and Costco Visa all under one login.

I spent 45 minutes on hold with Citi customer service during the first week of the launch.

I wanted to convert an existing Citi Diamond Preferred to the new Costco Visa. Turns out, the product is so new, they can't convert an existing credit line to this one. The rep told me that they may offer a PC later on, but not at this time.

I had that with the DC when it first came out. I don't remember the exact time frame, but I want to say 1-3 months after the product launch they were able to get it done for me.
Amex - BCP, Platinum, Business Gold
BoA - BankAmericard Cash Rewards
Chase - Freedom, CSP, RC, Ink Plus
Citi - DC, Prestige
Discover - It
