Chase FU randomly block charges?

Postby jasonfchen » Thu Jun 16, 2016 10:19 am

Hey guys, I recently applied for the chase freedom unlimited.

Last night I was trying to make a purchase on ssense.com (Canadian site) and the transaction was declined. I have enough CL and was not behind on payment and stuff like that. And this morning, I make two separate purchases on Amazon.com and only one of the two went through.

I did not receive any text or email communication messages from Chase, nor did any fraudulence activities showed up on my online account.

So my question is, do Chase just randomly block certain charges for no explained reasons?

Thanks!
Amex Blue Cash Everyday - 8K
Amex Premier Rewards Gold - NPSL
Chase Sapphire Preferred - 6K
Chase Freedom Unlimited - 8K
Chase Slate - 3.5K
CITI Costco - 6.5K
Discover IT - 6.8K

I had a similar problem when my CSP was new. Call them.
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt
May close or PC: Prestige, Arrival, BrooksBros
AA Platinum converting into Costco

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
Letting new accounts cool off since May

Chase's fraud department likes to randomly block charges across all Chase products. Sometimes they lock you out of online banking as an extra bonus, and they seem to believe every transaction that takes place outside the United States is automatically a scam.

It's frustrating to the point where I'm reconsidering my decision to use my CSP as my default card. I just got the CSP; nevertheless, I may be moving more spend to Discover.

I am surprised you didn't get a text/email. Check with a CSR that you have your notification preferences set up correctly.

OMG, tell me about it. Discover and Amex has never blocked me from any transactions what so ever. It is just frustrating. Called them, they said it was just for security reasons that their system randomly blocked.

That's weird. My CSP has been my go to card for the past 2 months and never had one single issue. Everything been smooth

Oh. I had to go through their security department and answer questions.

I'm used to getting a fraud alert in situations like this but I recently tried to place a couple of orders and was just getting errors on the merchant's (international in both cases) site without any additional information. Interesting thing is that I had trouble with some Chase cards and not with others.

I got a decline on Discover today for a $350 transaction at a clothing store, despite having a travel alert in place and using it at a nearby restaurant without any problem. I went with Prestige instead for the purchase.

I guess Discover thinks it's suspicious when I use the card for something other than a bonus category...oh well.
