Does Chase Freedom come only in Visa?

Postby To My Credit » Fri Jun 03, 2016 5:42 pm

So I've recently been approved for the Chase Freedom card and I'm wondering whether it's going to be a Visa or a MasterCard. I called CS up and they said that it's usually a Visa but they have no control over it. So I'm wondering, does it only come in Visa or does it also come in MasterCard? I'm asking because I'd ideally like to have both a Visa and a MasterCard. I've recently requested for my BofA CR card to be changed to MasterCard (because my landlord only accepts MasterCard) so I'd prefer it if my Chase Freedom came in Visa.

New Freedom cards are Visa.

I used to see pictures in MF signatures of Freedom MCs.

Some older Freedom accounts were MC, but I think they were all converted to Visa. Not sure when it happened.

It will be a Visa. I had a chat with a Chase CSR about this (in the context of a possible PC.) I was told that even though my existing card was a MC, any new card issued would be Visa. When I asked why, the CSR was very fortright: "Mastercard wanted to increase the fees they charge us, and we didn't agree with that."

My understanding is that Chase no longer issues MC, either for their own cards or for cobranded ones. I wound up cancelling that card, and kind of regret that I no longer have a MC. But people on this forum convinced me I didn't really need one.

I've not heard anything about a change for IHG.
