Do you still use your CSP card?

Postby solomon » Mon May 30, 2016 11:50 am

It's June of 2016.

Do you still use your CSP frequently or have you sock drawered it?

If yes, how frequently and did you combine w/ Freedom points?

Any tips with this card?

I've had CSP for 16 months and don't expect to close it anytime soon.

I use it for miscellaneous travel (not hotels or airlines) and dining when there's no better card.

I do rent a car occasionally (personal, not business), and like the primary insurance. I'm not a big fan of driving unfamiliar cars, and while I've not filed a claim, I expect the odds of my getting into an accident while in a rental car are increased.

I just got mine mid Aprid. I use it all the time. I'm just a few $$ shy of my 50k points.

The CSP bonus is great. The travel insurance benefits are great - though I get most of those on Prestige, too. If I was confident that I wouldn't be renting a car for a year, and I had already transferred most of my points, I would probably close it.

I might then get another one in a few years once my URs from Freedom spending had recovered.

I don't know where you stand with 5/24, but Freedom Unlimited would complement CSP and Freedom well...as might an Ink card.

I use mine for basically all dining and travel expenses now. Also for all car rentals. Earned 66K points my first month (50K signup bonus + 5K AU bonus + 10K earned regularly through spending.)

For gas, I'm going to start using the Citi Costco card as of June 20th. In the interim, I'm using my Discover Open Road card.

I've always used it. If spend doesn't fall under a bonus category then the CSP is my default card.

Did you not do your due diligence before applying? You should have carefully researched redemptions with Ultimate Rewards to ensure that you can maximize point value.

Unless you're interacting with Solomon outside of public CCF and have information I don't, it doesn't look like you did your due diligence before criticizing. OP's signature doesn't show a CSP, nor did OP mention getting one. It looks to me like a simple request for information.

One card I did SD (but will keep alive with minimal activity) is my IHG card. It's not out of disappointment with Chase or IHG. It's simply that I prefer 3 TYs from Prestige (which I'll value at 1.6 cpp each) over 5 IHGs (which I value at 0.8 cpp each). So, even at IHG properties, the Chase MC is not my highest-earning option. I'll keep it for the perks, though.

I use it for anything travel related when there isn't a better deal on one of other my cards. Currently I only put work expenses on there which for the time being is Hotel/Uber/Miscellaneous stuff. All my restaurant purchases go to my Discover until I max out the $1500 bonus spend, which would net me $150 in cash back after the double promo.

I combine it with my Freedom as well.

They gave me a CLI on both my Freedom ($3K) and CSP ($1.5K)
CSR $24K | Discover IT $22.9K | AMEX BCE $15K | AMEX EveryDay $12.9K | Marriott Premier - $11K | Delta Platinum $10K | Freedom $6.5K | Freedom $6K | BOA Travel Rewards - $2.7K | AMEX Premier Gold

The CSP will be the next card on the list. I spend a lot on dining out, and foresee spending quite a bit on travel in the future, so that makes it a good option for me. It doesn't hurt that it plays well with a Freedom card I already have. Useful since I don't like messing around with a lot of different points programs.
Current Cards: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Future: TBD
