How difficult is it to be approved for US Bank Cash+ Visa?

Postby To My Credit » Wed May 25, 2016 10:25 pm

The US Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Credit Card is on my wishlist, so I'm wondering how difficult it is to be approved for it. To make sense of it, it'd be great if one of you could rate the following Credit Cards (on a scale of 1-10) in terms of how difficult they are to get approved for:

1. Discover It
2. Chase Freedom
3. Bank Americard
4. AmEx BCE
5. US Bank Cash+
Current cards: BankAmericard CR, BankAmericard BBR, Citi Double Cash, Chase Freedom, AmEx BCE, Discover It
Wishlist: US Bank Cash+

1-10 scale won't help you understand the approval process with credit cards or any credit product, especially at this stage in the game for you. It is much more dynamic and complicated than 1-10... That's why FICO scores aren't 1-10, they are something like 350-850 AND involve the inclusion of a full credit report with potentially decades of data.
Amex - BCP, Platinum, Business Gold
BoA - BankAmericard Cash Rewards
Chase - Freedom, CSP, RC, Ink Plus
Citi - DC, Prestige
Discover - It

It's not just about the card itself. A given card does have underwriting criteria and one card may be more strict than another but your credit profile also matters. You need to review your profile and address any issues that may exist. The scale you're requesting will be of no benefit. A strong enough profile will have no problems getting approved for any of the cards on your list. A weak enough profile will get denied for all of them. Those in between can see different results depending on where their specific credit profile happens to fall on the spectrum.

I had no problems getting approved for the cash+. Some have had difficulty with it and ended up with the Rewards card instead. Yet others were outright denied and did not qualify for either.

You can refer to the Credit Pulls Database as suggested above to see where your score stacks up but keep in mind that it's never just about score.

That was useful, thanks!

I guess I just wanted a primitive understanding of the relative difficulty of getting each card. For instance, the AmEx BCE appears to be an easier card to be approved for than the US Bank Cash+ from what I've read, though I could be wrong.

I guess my profile is just very short on history, seeing as how all my credit cards are less than a year old. I should probably be patient and not want to have all these cards so soon.

Thanks, everyone, for the responses!

I'm not sure a 1-10 scale is relevant. All of them have underwriting standards, and might have a minimum FICO on a given bureau, along with possibly an income requirement of 20k a year (just picked a number randomly) but that is entirely based on the individual, and not relevant to some 1-10 scale. I mean how do you rank how hard it is for any given person to make 20k a year?

You have to meet some credit criteria, but you meeting that is entirely up to you and not to some scale of how hard it is for you to do that. None of us will ever know what that scale is for you, anymore than we will ever know if Amex will approve your application. You could give us your info and some of us here might take their best guess (I won't it's just a waste of time), but if you really want to know, just apply.

US Bank is notably conservative and some people end up with the Cash Rewards 1% card. Others get the Cash+ no problem.

If you have mostly newer accounts and a short history, you may want to wait.

This is true, but they are known to upgrade it to the Cash + after a while with the 1% card too. Hence that might be a foot in the door for some.

I personally don't see the appeal of the Cash + card anymore, or US Bank in general, but for those who do, don't be too quick to think you lost if you only got the Cash Rewards as that can turn into more.

PCing is reasonable. It's not like new accounts get some great signup bonus.

Whether you'd still want the card then is another matter.
