Citi Costco Visa showed up

Postby TXviking » Mon May 23, 2016 6:19 pm

I received my Citi Costco Visa today. I have not done business with CitiBank in years. Their CS tended to be somewhat mediocre; I hope it's gotten better.

Curiously, the sticker on the front says "Begin using on June 20, 2016". I figured that restriction applied only to Costco purchases.

I like the design of it much better than my Amex one. From what I understand you cannot use it at all until June 20th. When you go to activate it they tell you that you have to wait to make an account.
Discover IT - $5,700
Chase Freedom - $5,700
Costco Citi - $13,000
Sallie Mae - $4,000
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $6,000
Chase Sapphire Reserve - $19,500
Citi Double Cash - $6,500
Amex BCE - $13,000

FICOs: Discover (777), SallieMae (764), Amex (767), Citi (772)
FAKOs: CK- TU (760), EQ (760)

Someone on MF said that the reward structure of BofA Cash Rewards is changing. I've not investigated further to confirm this, but if true, then there may be a new top Costco card.

BofA Cash Rewards will allegedly be increasing the quarterly bonus category spend cap from $1.5k to $2.5k, and add warehouse stores as a 2% category.

With a bonus of up to 75%, the cash back rate would be up to 3.5%.

Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

Although I'm not in Preferred Rewards so for me it would just be 2%, I'm more just happy to see a bank actually enhancing a program rather than making it worse.

Looks like you're right. On the BofA official page, the quarterly cap has been increased to $2,500 and "wholesale clubs" have now been added to the 2% cashback category.

Interesting. The wife hasn't gotten hers yet.

And if she doesn't then I'm going to assume she is at her exposure limit with Citi. I may just have her cancel her AX TE now so the aged trade line stays reporting as such.

I think I'll pass on both the BofA and Citi cards. They have good earn rates, but they aren't so much better than what I have as to justify the fact there's no big bonus.

It also seems to support contactless payments. Has that little wireless icon on the back. Honestly I would rather it didn't. Just another way someone can skim my card.

I use an RFIF-blocking wallet for this reason. Doesn't remove the risk, but does reduce exposure.

I've been tempted to buy an RFID reader just to see what I can glean from my cards and test how well the wallet works.
