Chase Blacklisted... Possible approval now?

Postby ChrisLL » Fri Feb 19, 2016 2:18 pm

Hi there. I'm new to the forum and have been reading around quite a bit. It's really interesting to hear about other people's credit history since every story is different. Anyway, I'd just like to get your opinions on something since I may have to wait one to two weeks according to the Chase analyst...

In 2006 I had opened a Chase credit card, and long story short, it ended up going into collections along with some other accounts. I was young and dating a girl who had me blinded by love, who was really using me for my money. I have since then broken up with her, met someone new (who is a lot better with money, and ended up marrying her) and my credit went from 496 (around 2010) to a now 745 (TU). I thought maybe it's been long enough that they would forgive me, so I applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred. I also have recently gotten the Amex Platinum (NPSL), Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite ($20k), and an Amex Blue Cash ($20k). I have an old Navy Federal Cash Rewards card ($25k) and a Military Star Card ($6800). After my credit got destroyed, I had to start out with a First Premier Bank Credit Card ($750) and Credit One Bank ($1800)... Well anyway, back to CSP, I got denied so I called the Chase reconsideration line and told them my story. He puts me on hold and comes back on to tell me he's pushing it for approval, since it was a small debt and I've already paid it off. But it has to go thru a second approval since its been shorter than 7 years. He said it would take one to two weeks before they send me my credit card or denial letter. I was just wondering what you guys think my chances are of getting thru the second approval. Income is currently $82k. I had about 3 hard inquiries when I applied (For the Amex Plat, Barclaycard and Honda Financial Services; My wife and I just had our 2nd baby so we bought a new minivan). Interested in hearing your honest thoughts...

Interesting.. So last week I opened a checking and savings account with chase to use it as a way to develop a good relationship with them again in case I didn't get approved for the CSP. But I log into my account online and notice a new account labeled "credit card" that wasn't there before... I guess that's a pretty good sign I got finally got approved? CL is only $5000 but that's fine with me. :)

Congrats! It must feel good I know it did for me!

My story is very similar to yours except my "debt " with Chase was ID theft.

Contrary to the info online like Chase is not a forgiving bank, once you're on the blacklist they'll never trust you, etc... Seems that they are quite in fact a very forgiving bank to deal with. I was not denied but when I apped I got the "we need to further look into it" and the next day gave them a call and of course the CSR brought up the debt I supposedly had with them. After explaining I was placed on hold and approved so congrats once again!

That's awesome to hear that I'm not the only one that's had a success story with obtaining their card after bad history with them. I did in fact receive the Chase Sapphire Preferred a few days after my last post and it was a great feeling. One thing I didn't mention before was that the call that got me approved wasn't my first try. It was my fourth and the previous three rejected me. Just keep on trying with different reps and you'll finally get the result you want if your situation is in fact forgivable. :)

Congrats +1!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, you can get back in with them after burning them. It's always YMMV of course - burn them for 6 figures and you might not get back in. But generally speaking after 10 years, you have a shot.

I had to call in and I was asked about burning them as they do remember, and I went through a couple of reps and finally got one to give me the green light (didn't happen first try).

So you can get back with them but I wouldn't expect it to happen within the first few years after you burn them. I am sure there is an exception out there, but I bet 99.999% of the time, not happening. And in fact if you are stupid enough to app with them and the debt is outstanding well guess what - you just gave them where to find you which I would bet will be passed onto the vultures who are looking for you. Way to go slick.

But I was also let back in. I don't currently have any cards with them and with their new 5/24 rule I probably never will again. I've pretty much moved on to other lenders. But it sure can be done it's possible. Glad you were able to get back in.
