Upromise bonus offer

Postby kdm31091 » Tue Nov 24, 2015 12:32 pm

I have the Upromise Mastercard, which has proven useful for various online shopping (you can get 10% back or more by using it plus the portal). Rewards take awhile to post sometimes, but you do get them eventually.

Anyway, Barclay's emailed me a $10 cash bonus offer if I pay two bills with the Mastercard from Dec - February. Nothing earth shattering, but it's nice to see them throwing me a bone of some kind. I may as well do it considering my cell phone bill and electric bill don't get any special rewards on my other cards anyway (could opt for 5% cell phone on cash+, but even still that's less than $10 in rewards).

It's one thing I like about Barclay's - they tend to send promos to make the cards more interesting for things outside of their usual categories.

That is a nice little bonus; you might as well take advantage of it. What other promos have you gotten from Barclay's, if you don't mind sharing? Do you have to do something to activate the offer? It would be nice to get something like that on my SM (while it lasts), but since I've yet to put a penny on it that doesn't get 5% back I don't exactly feel like I'm owed something special!

I get them all the time on my Banana Republic Visa from Synchrony. I used to use the card for quite a lot, and they correlated with my switching my spending over to Discover. I'd love to know if it was caused by it. They appear to be targeted offers to me specifically (they are always mailers, and there's nothing about the promotion when logging in to my account), but I can't know that for sure. I've gotten 3% for gas for the next three months, $10 back for making one online bill payment, 5% back on everything, etc. Right now I can get 5% back on everything through the end of the year. It's tempting, but the rewards are redeemable at Banana Republic brands only and expire in 6 months, so I'm still preferring 1.2X MR on Amex or 2% cash on Discover.

This is the first time ive gotten a promo. Then again only had the card since August.

As far as activating, dont have to do anything. You just complete the required spend or whatever. I have to pay the same bills twice to get the money so I wont likely see the 10 bucks until February. Its kind of a lot of work for 10 bucks, but I want to use the promo so that maybe theyll be enticed to send me more of them.

A lot of people have gotten them on sallie cards in the past, like triple points on department stores and stuff. Usually its nothing super exciting but its nice and whether its the sallie mae or upromise, its cold hard cash you can use for whatever. I see your reservation about the banana republic offer. It just gets to be a high opportunity cost locking your spend rewards in to a certain brand.

Hey, it's money you'd be spending anyway so I don't think it's too much work for $10. Pick a bill and either remember to use a different card twice or switch your autopay info once then back again after a couple of months. Not much time invested for 10 bucks. It probably took more time and energy posting about it here than actually earning the rewards :ppp

I just set them up on autopay so yeah, it's worth it :) Technically it will be $11 because by depositing upromise earnings into a savings account with them, you get another 10% each year. Can't complain.

They sent me another bonus offer today: $10 if I add an authorized user and keep them on my account until February 2016. It doesn't even mention the AU having to make a purchase. Tempting, but I don't really have anyone who I trust enough to do that with, especially for only $10. If it was $50 or $100 it would be more worthwhile.

I have never gone through the hassle of adding AU's, but if you want to, you can. You don't actually give the AU the card. You can hold onto it yourself. If they don't have the card, they can't charge it.
