Recommend me a card to replace my Green Dot pre-paid?

Recommend me a card to replace my Green Dot pre-paid?

I have real credits, but even so I still have been using my Green Dot pre-paid card. I've had one for years. I use it to do online bill pay. I load money on the card, and then can pay my real credit cards or other bills just as if I had a bank account.

Problem? Well there's several problems with the card.

1 - $4.95 a month fee. I sort of didn't mind it, but awhile ago it went up to $5.95 a month and now it's going up to $7.95 a month! Thata's ridiculous.

2 - Twice my card was compromised. I've never lost my card in the 5 or 6 years I've had one. None of my other credit cards have ever been compromised. Since none of my real credit cards have ever had any issues, I tend to point the finger towards Green Dot. It's a hassle to deal with. They freeze your card, mail you a new one, you have to transfer the money you had left on the card, and then dispute the bad transactions.

Anyway, can someone recommend me a new pre-paid card to get? I'd like a low monthly fee or none. I'd like to be able to use the card as if I had a checking account... ie: bill pay. I load money on my card and either through the card website, or through the other website of the person I am trying to pay, I can enter the bank routing number and account number.

Dude....Seriously?

I'd use a Credit One before I used a Green dot pre-paid.

Amex Serve is really nice. There are three versions now. I have the simple $1 a month one that I use as a "savings account."

Edit: I should add that for my card the $1/month is waived with a $25 direct deposit. It looks like the new limit is $500 to waive the fee.
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k

Bluebird from American Express. There's no fees, you can pay your bills with online bill pay or with a check (yes, you even get a checkbook). Also it includes Amex Offers which are really good (discounts at Walmart, Petco, Whole Foods, Best Buy, etc). You don't have to worry about fraud, since fraud protection is built in, and there's purchase protection if you want to use that too. It's not really useful if you shop at places that don't accept Amex, but most places do, and there's free ATM access at certain ATMs, and free check writing.
American Express: Blue Cash Everyday (10k), Everyday, ; Discover It (7.3k) ; Target (2.1k)

Citi: Diamond (2k) ; Bank of America: Cash Rewards (2.6k) ; Capital One: Quicksilver (3k) , Sony ; Chase: Freedom (3.7k), Slate (3k), (Amazon) ; Barclay Ring ; Synchrony: Walmart MC, Amazon, Ebates

Originally the reason I had a Green Dot like 4 or 5 years ago is because I didn't have a real credit card and needed a way to make purchases. I even rented a car with it once. But later someone co-signed a car loan for me.. so fast forward a bunch of years and I have some real credit cards now. Most of the credit cards want either a payment sent in or payment made online through a bank account. I don't like sending stuff in, so Green Dot allowed me to do bank transfer bill pays.

In recent times Green Dot has gone down hill. Moving their support lines to India it appears. Sometimes you get a really good person on the line. Other times someone completely useless who doesn't understand much English. The one time I lost a reload card they were good to give me the $500, just took a little time. I had the receipt. I knew where I lost the reload card too.

Anyway, so I went to the store.. I saw Amex Serve and MyVanilla. Did not see Bluebird. I'll give you my comments on MyVanilla since I bought one. I may look more into Bluebird and get rid of this.

Monthly Fees: None. Sort of. They charge you .50 cents per signature or pin transaction. Fine. 99% of the time I'm not doing either of those. I'm going to pay bills.

Card Cost: $3.95

Reload Cost: $3.95 - Fine with me since I know they need to make their money somehow.

Support: I called them twice. The phone system was super easy to navigate and I got a person quick, and they seemed like they were in the United States.

After registering on their website, I found no evidence of bill paying. I was a little upset, because I had spoke to a live person before buying the card. I called them back. While you can't schedule payments through their website, you can get your routing # and account # by going to the direct deposit page (or calling them like I did) then you can enter that information in the other websites you are doing bill pay through. Fine with me.
