Sallie Mae Chip Card

Postby darkguy2 » Fri Aug 28, 2015 11:13 pm

I noticed that all of the card images on my bill and on the website showed the card with a chip on it so I called in and asked about it. They said it is available and after checking if mine was already sent out, it was not, I got my new one sent to me. Should get it in a week. Thought others should know so they can go request theirs. This is the last card I have that did not have a chip.

SM is also my last un-chipped card (apart from Brooks Bros which has no major payment network). My SM is sock drawered until 2016, though, with only bimonthly $1 Amazon GCs. I'll just get my chipped one whenever Barclaycard decides to send it.

Is it also signature priority, with backup PIN like other Barclaycards?

CB I assume you got your IHG card chipped as well? If not then you can request one.

Oh, right. IHG doesn't have one - and I think doesn't offer it yet.

I have not gotten it yet so I do now know if it comes with a backup PIN which would be nice. I will see if I get a PIN with the card or it talks about it in the documentation that comes with it.

They do offer it now. When I looked at the Chase site a week or two ago it showed the IHG card with a chip. :)

I guess I got a bad CSR, then, when I asked for chips on IHG and my debit card. I called the IHG number, and not CSP.

The card is really only best at IHG properties, and even internationally it will be a while until they absolutely require a chip.

I got it today and I to say I like how it looks over the old design. It is a darker blue. It does come with a PIN backup, but it says it needs to be used at a register first before you can you it at automated terminals.
