Cap One Account Number Change

Postby CC Deville » Wed Jul 29, 2015 7:25 pm

I have been waiting for Capital One to change my Venture One to EMV for a while now. Today I logged in to check my balance and noticed that the card design had changed from that garish gold Venture One World MasterCard to the new blue Venture One with chip; however, I noticed that the last four digits of my account number have changed.

I know some people mentioned that on MyFico when their QS's changed to EMV. Ugh. I had that darn account number for 17 years.....Has this happened to anybody here?

Mine stayed the same when my chipped Venture arrived.

None of my cards that have been replaced by EMV have had their account numbers changed.
Kohls: $300, Discover IT: $1.8k, Capital One Quicksilver: $2k, Amazon Store Card: $2.2k, BoA Cash Rewards: 1k, Chase Freedom: 3.2k, AMEX HHonors 3k

I'm kind of amazed that any account number has lasted 17 years without needing to be changed (due to the card info being stolen).
Wallet: Prestige CSP SchwabPlat Freedom It Hyatt SallieMae AAPlat
SD: Arrival BrooksBros BCE ED IHG
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

Right? It was my first credit card. The BIN was 529115 which CapOne retired a long time ago. I wonder if they had to change it to reflect the World MasterCard status. I have heard that when banks start BIN mixing (using the old /gold platinum account number despite an upgrade) sometimes that account number is not recognized as a true World/World Elite/Visa Signature and therefore, the bank doesn't get the higher swipe fee.

BofA on the other hand; I don't bother memorizing that account number; I think I am on my 7th account number in 14 years.

Thanks for the responses, boys.

I received the card today. All the pictures of Venture and Venture One show the account number and payment network on the back of the card. My account number, name, expiration date and "World MasterCard" are all on the front. The card is not embossed, but it has the same slightly raised, small letter and number font that Chase uses for the CSP so it does not look bad. I wonder if all Venture/Venture One MasterCards are this way and only Visa has the info on the back.

On the back of the card carrier are FAQ's:

"Q: Why did my account number change?

A: The safety and security of your account is very important to us. This is simply a preventative measure to improve the security of your card. This is not in response to your account being compromised in any way." RIP to my very first ever credit card number 1998-2015.

This makes it official that Nordstrom Visa will be my last card to get an EMV chip (excluding debit cards). I received an email on Wednesday that Nordstrom will be sending one in 7-14 days.
