Instant approval for $4k. 60k points + $50.

Will request 80k via secure message, as I've heard others do.

For anyone else interested in the card, there is a link in the Garden Club thread for a slightly better offer. 80k IHG points, a waived 1st-yr AF, and a $50 credit.

I'll update this thread again once I've gotten the card, hit the $1k spending, and either received (or been denied) the 80k+$50 offer substitution.

It came today.

I will say that it looks very unpretentious for an AF travel card. It's light plastic, with a silvery-orange front, a dull gray back, and no chip. If someone didn't know what IHG stood for, it could be mistaken for a department store MC. That may play a role in why it isn't more popular.

There is a little novelty in a Chase MC. It's a break from the usual dark blue and black Visas.

I'm very eager to start using it and get the improved offer.

Does it really take 6 to 8 weeks for them to upgrade my IHG account to Platinum for the status the card gives? Or it's usually faster?

I see they are also having a point sale through the end of the month. You buy X points on the normal price schedule, and you get X points free. Not exactly the same thing as half-price, but it looks good!

*Also, if you buy IHG points on an IHG card, do you get 5x points? Even more if you're officially updated to Platinum when you buy points? Or just the base 1x points?

I'd hope the aesthetics of the card don't make it unpopular. I know it is important to some of us in the "credit world" but the average person isn't going to care.

Besides, Freedom is a downright ugly card IMO and it is popular. It has garish colors.

I know that AFs on cards in other countries tend to be higher, since the USA has higher fees for merchants. I compared the US Chase IHG to the Cap One Canadian and Barclaycard British equivalents, and the US card looks like a much better deal!

Freedom doesn't look great, but it's not an AF travel card.
