I have to completely disagree with you. I expect companies to compete for my business. If they are not up to the challenge, why should they get my dollars? That would be more like socialism, where you just fork over your money and take whatever they feel you deserve for it. Sorry but I can't agree with you. I have to compete every day on the job against those who want my job - if I can't do it, I'll be replaced in a heartbeat. Why should I expect any less from those who seek my dollars? No one just handed them to me out of the goodness of their heart because they believe in socialism or welfare. Likewise, I don't believe in those things either.

Those who aren't up to the challenge, will be replaced by others who are. That's how this system is. It really does work both ways provided it's not a monopoly of an essential service or good.

It's not personal, it's business.

But I do agree with this one being on the chopping block before the annual fee comes up. If they were to give me a decent CLI, I'd probably keep it, despite the fee, for at least another year. I'd probably give them some spend too. I don't see why I should go out of my way to give my lowest limit card luv when others have shown me they want that business. Just how I feel about it. If that makes me entitled or whatever you want to call me, I can live with that.

So despite already having too many cards and not traveling, you couldn't resist the bonus? Or you plan to close even more of your existing cards?
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt, SPG

When I applied for it, I didn't do it for the bonus - I was hoping for a WE MC as I did not have any at the time. Now I have two other WE MCs along with the Arrival +, one of which has no annual fee. So as my cards have changed this has become "redundant". There has to be a reason to keep each of the cards I keep open in my eyes. And to me, this hasn't made my "top X" and thus it's potentially on the chopping block.

And yes, I do have in my opinion too many cards. Or at least more than I prefer to deal with. The current collection will be further pared down. Those will annual fees get first scrutiny. Basically they gotta be worth it to me. No different than anything else - most poeple if they feel they don't get value for their money look elsewhere.

I find myself going a bit in the other direction. I'm happy to keep my no-AF cards open even if I don't use some of them much, but I'm finding that my AF cards (plus Freedom and Discover) have been giving me the best value lately.

Then I agree 100% in keeping them, if they work for you and give you value. That being the key of course - that you find value in them.

Actually we both applied for the Arrival + card but I was given the downgraded version as I already have a Rewards card with them 5 k limit that I recently got and they wanted to see more payment hx / time with that acct. Or at least that is what they told me!

Regarding my shoes from page 3...

I did get all the rewards from Arrival that I expected. The Arrival reward rates are purely a bonus on top of the base rewards.

*I also got points when I used a Barclaycard portal but ended up paying with an Amex. I expect those rewards will be reversed.*

Actually, from some limited research on MF, it looks like the card I use may not matter. Combining RewardsBoost and Amex might work well.

They could always reverse the points far in the future, though.

Unfortunately even less remarkable thanks to the news today from Barclays as featured on TPG:

For the no-AF people, does the 5% vs. 10% redemption change go into effect very soon, or on a card anniversary date? There is no "next AF" to pay.
