Capital One Quicksilver surprise

Postby dlgoldamex » Fri Apr 24, 2015 10:50 pm

I applied for the Capital One Quicksilver Visa signature on a whim tonight, as I take Ubers almost every day and they are running a 20% statement credit on Ubers for the next 12 months. I was shocked when I was instantly approved for a credit limit of $10,000! I thought Capital One is usually stingy with limits, but they were very nice to me. I am only 20 years old, and my next highest limit is $6100 on my (sock-drawered) Citi forward.
Gold Delta Skymiles -AU- $25k- 4/12
Citi Forward Visa- $6.1k- 8/12
Amex Gold Delta Skymiles- $3.8k- 1/13
BofA Travel Rewards Visa Sig- $5k- 1/13
Amex Blue Cash Everyday- $5k- 7/13
Barclaycard Arrival WEMC- $5k-1/14
Cap One Quicksilver Visa Sig- $10k- 4/15

I know Uber is running promotions with several credit cards. Capital One's promotion is the best one I've heard of for a regular Uber customer. I know Amex is giving extra rewards on Uber rides, but nothing to rival 20% off.

I've also read on myfico, but not verified, that at least some MasterCards will give one free ride.

Capital One has always been good to me so it is nice to see that they are finally starting to take things seriously. You have to look at Capital One as two companies in regards to their cards: builder/rebuilder cards = higher APRs, lower credit lines; Prime cards (QS, Venture One, Venture and Platinum Prestige) = higher credit lines and lower APRs. Venture and Venture One have easily been getting $10K + starting limits depending on credit profile.

Has anyone purchased an Uber gift card with their Quicksilver card? I would like to know if the 20% discount also applies to those.

They gave me a 10k starting limit on my Buypower card. Granted most of my limits were 10k or higher, but I have no complaint about Cap One's prime cards (other than the horrendous customer service, it really is a joke). The card, the limit, etc I have no issues with. And thankfully I have no reason to call them so it's all good. No complaints here. I only wish Discover would just plain loosen up like this. They are actually more conservative than Cap One, which is like saying someone is to the far right of Adolph Hitler. Maybe not a tasteful analogy but you get the idea. They do seem to have two tiers of cards - one you want to get the hell out of as soon as you can, and the other is pretty darn good.
