Careful when applying through email invite

Postby Callmedory » Sat Apr 18, 2015 9:28 am

So we got an email for a United MileagePlus Visa with 50K bonus. It came to our (my and Husband’s) joint email account, but to me. I put Husband as primary, not realizing it made a difference.

We spend the required amount, but get only 30K miles.

I called up, they said they’d check. I received a letter that the invite wasn’t to Husband. I called again, asking for an appeal, finally understanding that the misunderstanding was on my end.

I was told yesterday that they’re crediting us the other 20K miles.

Chase said it wasn’t theirs, it was United’s to deal with--and (interestingly), that United didn’t really have a way to deal with it.

Lesson: Read carefully those invites!!

Btw: For those worrying about total CL from these, we have a CSP at $25K and were issued $32K on this MileagePlus card. So I have no idea if they have a total cap.

Btw 2: USAA and CreditKarma agree within 2 points on our credit rating. About 836.

Lots of couples share emails, online account usernames..but it's not joint.

There's no specific number that everyone is capped on.

They look at the individual--the income, the revolving credit and balances, as well as a few other factors to determine whether they're going to extend further credit to you or not.

If you already have a credit card with them; some analysts get a little creative and that's where reducing some of the revolving credit you have will allow new revolving credit elsewhere. But as times change and peoples situation change, you could potentially in the future, apply for another card without having to go through the same hoopla

It definitely matters as the offers are sent to individuals. Luckily, Chase is generally pretty good about matching offers if one makes a request via SM and within a certain timeframe.

Not sure on caps but Chase has an internal limit for each person based on credit.

When I applied for a CLI in December on my Sapphire, I was declined for 2 reasons (I was going through old mail yesterday and found this)

1) account too new (I opened it in July 14, so only 5 months, oops, thats my bad)
2) Chase was giving me as much (max amount) as they could at the time

That second point was interesting, at the time it didn't sink in, but months later, now it does. I haven't asked for a CLI since then, but I do have a Marriot Rewards on the way (with a 5k limit) so I'll just wait until July (1 year anni) for my Sapphire for another CLI.

I'm not sure what to make of that in your case. When I asked for a Freedom CLI from $600 to $3000, they offered a CLI of $1400 (taking me to $2000, matching Discover). I got that same line about having as much credit as they could offer me.

When I got CSP, my total Chase CL rose from $2k to $9.5k (with no recon or other CLI attempts). That's a pretty big increase for an alleged max internal limit for 6 months.

Since you had higher limits already when you got CSP, I'm not really sure what factors are limiting your overall Chase CL.
Wallet: Prestige CSP SchwabPlat Freedom It Hyatt SallieMae AAPlat
SD: Arrival BrooksBros BCE ED IHG
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

I'm not sure either, it has been quite the mystery to me as well.

But my CSP was only the second of these 7 additional cards I've received since April of last year, and was before any of these other CLs were established and/or increased. Maybe Chase is hedging a little bit since I have a mortgage and open car note with them? (Wouldn't that give them more confidence? lol)
