New Look for Chase Slate

Postby nowipaco » Mon Mar 23, 2015 1:00 pm

Today I went to log into my Chase account and I just zoomed by the credit cards page to see that there was a brand new more Freedom-esque look to the Chase Slate. It is not a vertical card anymore and does look more premium.

I never knew why the Slate's design before was so bizarre. And this version comes with a free FICO.
Macy's TLs (21k), Lowes (17k), CSP (10k), Sam's Club (10k), Nordstrom (5k), AARP (4.2k), Freedom (3k), Discover (1.5k), Quicksilver (2k), BoA (3k), Barclaycard Arrival (2.5k), Amazon Store (6k), Paypal (4.9k), Sam's Club MC (3.6k), Walmart MC (1.2k)

Awesome! I did not see that Chase was now throwing in the FICO score like Discover on that card. I hope they expand it to other cards so I can get it on my CSP.

I don't like the redesign. I thought the old vertical one was unique. The "Slate" font is sleek and modern, but what is with that abrupt light blue horizontal stripe? It looks like someone hastily threw it together in PowerPoint from a Windows 98 computer.

If it comes with a free FICO score now, however, then that is a good tradeoff.

FICO-8:
EX - 809 (11/16) | TU - 803 (11/16)
Primary Cards:
American Express EveryDay - $20,000 (10/14)
Discover it - $23,000 (2/14)
AU on Barclay Sallie Mae - $10,000 (8/15)
plus several store accounts of varying usefulness now

Agreed. This card looks pretty cheap now. If the Chase logo was not there, I would think this is a Credit One or First Premier card.

And granted the Slate isn't a high-end card by any stretch of the imagination, but Chase could communicate concepts like everyday and non-exclusivity without resorting to flat-out bad design.

Standard disclaimer that the benefits/features of a card are what really matters and design shouldn't be a deciding factor in applying for something, but come on.
