Can I apply for Chase Freedom or too soon?

Postby drd1170 » Mon Mar 02, 2015 11:12 am

As you all can probably see from my recent postings, I got the CSP about a week and a half ago...and now I want the Freedom to pair up with it. Can I go ahead and apply or will it bring down my credit score? Transunion 775, Equifax 789 (Equifax also shows my two hard inquiries...one is from a year ago when it was applying for my apartment! and the most recent was obviously from Chase). My credit utilization is 0, as I pay off everything instantly. Also, my credit score did not change after Chase pulled a hard inquiry for the CSP application.

Your scores look more than good enough for the Freedom but I'd honestly wait until the $200 sign up bonus returns. More UR points that way. There's a possibility that it can return sometime around April or May.

You could do it now too but it won't be an instant approval.

It's something new Chase has been doing with their apps now if you app for more than one card in 30 days, mainly for security reasons.

Got it, thanks. How much will this affect my credit score?

We can't tell you that. It's not just a matter of new card = X points. There are a number of factors involved and it's all about how they all add up for the specific situation.

You might want to wait and see how the CSP affects your credit once it reports.

I believe that Chase will have to do another hard inquiry. This might drop your score down a point or two, but it depends on how many inquiries you already have. Since you only have 2 on there, it might or might not, no real way of telling yet. The fact that you just opened a chase account does not really matter. I did that with my Amex accounts. Got approved for the everyday card and then 1 week later got approved for the blue cash everyday card.
Main Cards:
Amex BCE
Amex Everyday
Bank of America Cash Rewards
Chase Freedom
Capital One Quicksilver
Citi Thank You Preferred

Spark Cash Back (Business), Amex Plum (Business)
