Approved for Marriott Rewards Premier Card

Postby Twisted Innovator » Sun Feb 22, 2015 1:00 pm

It was an instant approval! I went through the Marriott website, cuz I have a membership number. The application process took you through Chase. My FICO scores are currently 791 EQ, 790 TU, and 785 EX. AAOA is just over 3 yrs and my oldest card is 7 yrs old. I put my income as $46,203. I was instantly approved for $13,800 :) However, I'm going to transfer some of that over to my Freedom which will bring my Freedom up to 10K, without taking a hard pull for a credit line increase.

Last year I used my free night certificate at the Santa Clara Marriott for a 49ers game. Hotel had a rate of $359 plus taxes/fees that night. Good hotel within walking distance for 49ers games, stayed there several times last season. Cat 4 so 25k points per night, I also used points to stay there several times last season.
American Express Platinum Card
American Express TrueEarnings Card from Costco
Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Signature Card
Chase Sapphire Preferred World MasterCard

Congrats on the approval!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any insight into the Marriott Rewards Premier vs. the Hyatt credit card? I have been looking into applying for one of them and I like Marriott, but it seems that the Hyatt points are worth significantly more than Marriott points. Any suggestions?

Get a CSP and just use the points as and where you want - probably for Hyatt or a flight.

Marriott points are, from my research, pretty consistently worth around 0.6 to 0.9 cents each. Hyatt points look a lot more variable - from 0.5 to 2+ points. Hyatt has plenty of bad point deals - they just have a lot of good deals, too. Hyatt is not like Marriott where there seems to be a ceiling for point value.

I'll be staying at a top-tier Marriott soon, and can give my review on the hotel itself later.
Love: IHG, Platinum, Sallie Mae, AA Plat, CSP
Like: Discover, ED, BCE, Hyatt, Arrival, Freedom
Might drop: BrooksBros, Prestige (Costco PC?)
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

I have both honestly the Marriott card point wise isn't worth it (i just have it for the free night)- I use my CSP card over my Marriott and just transfer pints, i get a lot more points for the same purchases with the CSP than the Marriott

Thank you both for the replies! I have a CSP and Freedom, so I am able to rack up UR points pretty fast that way. Whenever looking into a Marriott stay it is almost alway a better deal to book through Chase and get the 20% off point redemption than to transfer to my Marriott account. Hyatt points on the other hand can be very valuable; especially for the more upscale properties.

I didn't even consider the annual free night... That makes the Marriott card almost a no brainer...

Thanks again for the input!
