I used my Amex and bought a Dell laptop battery replacement some years back, for my bother in law. He didn’t open it for over a month--it didn’t work. Dell’s clock on returns starts upon ordering, so they wouldn’t take it back. I called Amex. Technically, it was neither stolen nor broken, so they said they didn’t think they could help.

Sonofagun! I was contacted by Amex that they WOULD reduce the amount and Dell had to mail me a box to return the item. That was the last time I bought from Dell; Husband flipped us over to Apple.

Kudos to Amex for handling it!!

Did you ever hear back after your follow up email? As far as I understand the terms, you should be protected in this case assuming the store would not take them back, which they already refused...

The lesson of this story is - Always use amex when you are purchasing an item of some monetary worth. Why leave to chance?
I just got a Visa Signature card but i am skeptical of the assurance it provides and would not use it for larger purchases...

chase Saphire poor return service

Postby cjscott » Fri Jul 21, 2017 5:57 pm

I just wanted to add as well that Chase Saphire has poor service. I've had return protection with AmEx, and they handle it right away. It took a long time to submit my claim, and they asked for information many times. The people seemed poorly trained. I asked to speak to a supervisor and ... the supervisor said that *I* had not been nice enough.
I can't find my status of the return on their website. I just called in, four weeks after submitting, and I have no word from them!
