Exactly, I think this is the reason why a check was sent to Darkguy2 instead of a credit.

I still have no response from them yet

I also did a price protection claim thought Discover and got a check. I think they use a third party to manage the claims. So the check is not from Discover or Chase/Visa.
Discover IT - $5,700
Chase Freedom - $5,700
Costco Citi - $13,000
Sallie Mae - $4,000
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $6,000
Chase Sapphire Reserve - $19,500
Citi Double Cash - $6,500
Amex BCE - $13,000

FICOs: Discover (777), SallieMae (764), Amex (767), Citi (772)
FAKOs: CK- TU (760), EQ (760)

ok this is what I learned, Chase Sapphire uses Asurion for the benefits claims and my Citi Prestige uses IDS property casualty ins company according to my benefits booklet but when I called Citi, they told me I was covered by Federal ins company which is also used by Discover card ,oh and BTW still no response from Asurion.

Thanks for the info! I would follow up with card benefit services and see what the latest story is...

I finally got an email regarding my price protection claim today... The email states that the itemized store receipt and the monthly statement are not legible. I believe the receipt could be called illegible as it was hand written by the salesman, but the statement was printed from Chase's website; I don't understand how that could be illegible. Anyway, I am going to go back to the store and have them rewrite the receipt more clearly and send them another copy of the receipt and statement and see what happens. I'm afraid that this is just a precursor to an official denial for some BS reason. We shall see!

I was researching Asurion and found tons of complaints and accusations of the coverage being a scam, why would Chase pick a company like this?

Does Amex tend to give consistently good return protection on all their cards? It looks like the policy is consistent across all cards, but in practice would a Platinum or PRG purchase lead to a smoother return experience than an ED or BCE?

Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

Im not sure but my very good experience using the return protection and accident protection was with my AMEX gold card, they instantly gave me credit and no need to send items to them.

I know... It is a small mom & pop camera store. I have the credit card slip, but it only shows the amount charged, not the itemized list of what was purchased.

Well, isn't that just great... If Chase wants to compete with Amex they'll have to do better than that...
