It's a habit I still have from my $600 Freedom days when utilization was a concern. It also helps me keep track of my expenses, since I can investigate anything that looks unusual (fraud or a billing mistake) while it's still fresh in my mind. Paying current-month charges serves as an "okay so far" note.

Interest rates are low, so I'm not missing out on any real income on my cash, anyway.

I used to do this, too, but more out of a fear of racking up an unmanageable balance. Between my current credit/rewards enthusiast days and my passive building/retail discount hunting days I started using my Banana Republic Visa for regular spending. Paying off about once a week eased me into moving regular spending through credit cards and didn't allow me to spend beyond my means. I know too many people that have let credit card spending get out of control and didn't want to repeat it. Now I'm comfortable enough to just PIF after the statement cuts. I also keep a running total outstanding for each of my cards in an event on my phone's calendar so I'm always rock solid on what I owe (plus it serves as a reminder to pay). I'll reconcile to online accounts every week or so to monitor activity.

Well, I did end up "going wild" and only paying a little more than the minimum on Sallie Mae this cycle. I'm at about 8% utilization, and still in my 0% promotional period.

Of course, they probably won't auto-CLI me until a week after I finally decide to get an EDP (making Sallie Mae useless for everything except Amazon).

Congrats! I take it you don't think 30 swipes a month will be too difficult? The app makes it incredibly easy to track your transaction count. Hope you like the card.

Thanks!

In months when I'm spending a lot, I might make a few little (but still necessary) transactions to be 100% sure I get to 30. I went over my spending, though, and found it made sense even if I didn't get to 30 some months.

The only strange transactions I make at the grocery store are for custom giant cuts of natural-feed meat. I don't do gift cards.
