Ritz Visa concierge disappointment

Postby deathrider » Sun Feb 01, 2015 2:40 pm

Hello, everyone, im new here but been looking around for a while.
I applied for the the JP Morgan Ritz Carlton card and was approved for 8k.

The card came in about a day which was extremely quick, the presentation and card looks amazingly nice, to make a long story short, I wanted to try the JP Morgan concierge and it was a big disappointment.

I needed the info I requested within 24hours and did not receive a response, so I waited patiently for 9 days with no update so i called back, a different person answered and I told him the situation, he apologized on behalf of the lady and was able to come through with my request within 30 minutes.

All I was looking for was a close location that repairs rims.
I'm very disappointed considering the annual fee and the way they present it.

This was enough for me to cancel the card but not without first moving this credit line over to my Chase Sapphire

I was now debating between the Amex platinum and the Citi prestige....

I went with the prestige and Citi gave me 16.5k credit line which made me very happy. I hope the concierge will be much better.

Based on my experience (and what I've heard from others), all CC concierges are hit or miss. It depends on who gets assigned your task. I've had concierges handle somewhat complicated requests successfully. And then I've had them "cancel" my request after 2 days because they couldn't find a single hotel in Shaumburg, Illinois that was under $200 a night. It then took me about 10 minutes to Google Search, call a hotel and book a room for $120 a night.
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

deathrider,

I think that your standards about what 'concierge services' should include on a $95 credit card ($395 AF - $300 travel credit = $95 net AF) are a bit unrealistic. They can suggest restaurants and hotels and help with reservations - sometimes even when a place claims to be booked solid. But to expect them to be as familiar with auto repair, especially in smaller cities and towns, seems to be pushing it.

There are some matters in which the concierge staff will have special information. I'm sure they can tell me about local entertainment. But auto repair? They're just going to Google it. Why bother asking when you can do the same thing more quickly?

concurred with the standards... they're not quite magicians but I've had great experiences with them. Like what some have said: YMMV

I've had some JPM concierges drop the ball on me, ie: not even put a note on my account about what I've requested or just never reached back.

But there are some that have gotten me last minute reservations on a fully booked 5-star restaurant *while* I stood in the lobby.

If you are looking towards AMEX Platinum, you might be even more disappointed. Every single time I've called AMEX I've been put on hold. Then I gotta punch #'s in for the menu and by the time I get to a CSR, they still have to transfer me elsewhere :( At least with CSP and Ritz/JPM, a CSR picks up almost immediately. But again, YMMV.

Too cancel the card so quick was probably not a good idea. I've used the AMEX and Visa Signature services, I had a bad experience with AMEX once and started to use Visa more. Then I realized that Visa wasn't cutting it, especially since I had to call them every time. They did a good job but calling was too much of a hassle. Went back to AMEX and they've been good since. Yes I did have a bad experience with them, but that was once and they've been great since.

This is why I was disappointed, something this simple taking over 9 days without an update. The lady told me she would "exceed my expectations"

I have called Visa concierge for flower deliveries and transportation, they always did a great job.

quick update, Citi Prestige concierge came through quick and even sent a follow up email.
Presentation was just as impressive as the Ritz card and came next day air Fed ex.
Citi privatepass beyond is a very impressive benefit that I was unaware of, it is only available for certain card holders, here is a link.
