CLI with Citi

Postby Battery111 » Tue Jan 13, 2015 8:04 pm

I received a CLI on my AAdvantage card after six months with a soft pull. However, my 12 month mark was a couple months ago, and every time I go to request a CLI online the wording indicates it will be a hard pull. I've had immaculate payment history on this and all my accounts. My scores are reasonably strong, and I have a few other cards with higher CL's than this one.

Any ideas why Citi seems so dead set on doing an HP for this CLI? Is this a common thing with Citi or do I have reason to be concerned? I truly don't need the CLI for purchasing power, I just like to have higher limits for scoring purposes and personal pride. Hence I'm unwilling to take an HP for a CLI on this card.

Even after my CLI with Citi several months ago, I still have the SP CLI button on my account management section of my Citi login. I don't get why yours is still saying it requires that they do a HP.

So one detail I neglected to mention. I miscalculated six months from my last CLI a couple months ago. At that time I had the SP wording but when I actually submitted the form it came back declined. Reasoning in the letter was that it was too short a time since my last CLI. I looked and sure enough it had only been 5 months. However ever since then it's been saying it's gonna be a HP.

I think in time the soft pull option will come back. I have two citi cards and sometimes one has a hp only option while the other offers a soft pull. It's not always clear what the reason is. But if you use your cards responsibly -- and you use them enough-- I would expect the soft pull will eventually come back if your credit is in order.

I completely agree here. That's how it works in a nutshell. If I were the OP, I'd wait a bit longer and check back frequently.

That's my plan now. Like I said, I really don't need the CLI so there's no hurry. I don't use the card much, mostly for buying airline tickets. Maybe I'll pull it out and use it a bit more frequently for a while.

Not sure why your CLI will be a HP by Citi. However, I received like 2 CLIs for my Citi Simplicity that I didn't even request for within like 3 months time. This was after I paid off all the credit card debt on that card. I never had Citi do a HP.

I saw the SP CLI button on my account management section as well. Clicked the button and success. 1.5K CLI on both of my citi cards.

The SP CLI option returned. However, I was denied a CLI. Near as I can tell, they feel my total amount of available credit across all my cards is the max for my income. No biggie. I didn't really need the CLI anyway.
