I am seeing about as much overlap with Chase & Discover for 2015 with two quarters of the year pretty similar. For 2015, Q2 (restaurants) and Q4 (amazon.com and perhaps other online shopping vs. Discover's holiday shopping) will overlap.

I was thinking about coaxing the wife into applying for a Freedom while they have the $200 sign up offer, but I probably won't now. Q1 doesn't do much for me and Q2 matches Discover, so it wouldn't even be useful until the last half of the year, and even then really just for one quarter out of the year. Maybe I will consider a Sallie Mae for myself so we at least have gas covered year-round.

This year during Discover's home improvement quarter I always meant to try getting gift cards for restaurants, but never got around to it. Lowe's always has a big selection of gift cards. I will have to test out manufactured spending next year. After the first half of 2015 the standard Discover won't do much for me (I love being able to toggle back to the chrome version).
