First fraud charge ever (CSP)

Postby nismoZtuner » Wed Oct 29, 2014 11:26 pm

Yesterday I was at the gym and suddenly received a text from chase fraud department telling me if I tried to make a $130 at a pet store. . I had two options reply with "yes" or "no" the message also had the last 4 numbers of my card. I replied with "NO".. right away they sent me anothert text telling me to expect a call from them ASAP- my phone was under 10% of battery but no one called. . Once I got home I decided to Google the phone number that was given with the message if I did not want to wait for their call.. on Google I found half of the post saying the number was not legit.. so I called chase directly and the CSR told me my account was on hold because of some charge- transferred me to the fraud department. .

I was on hold for less than a minute. The first CSR told me the wait was somewhere around 10 mins.. so the lady asked me a few questions like if the card was in my possession and went over mmy last transactions.. she later told me the charge was coming from "PET SOLUTIONS" but did not go through- she closed down my account and told me that it was going to forwarded to the credit bureaus (why?). She also said that I was going to get a new card within a week or so..

I don't recall why but it's standard practice.

Maybe it is just a preemptive measure to let the CRAs know your SSN is at a high risk for fraud. It could provide them with documentation that fraudulent activity has occured and let them know if any inquiries/applications come through it is a big red flag.

What I'm thinking is that someone aced my number but no the correct security number or expiration date which made them think it was fraud (maybe?). I haven't had any issues with my other cards and I rarely use my CSP.. I abuse the crap out of my PRG and nothing up to now..

The number to call is on the back of your card, whether you want to wait for their call, or not. Someone calls, claiming to be a bank, the only reasonable action is say "Taht's nice", hang up, and call them. With chase, they'll tell you to call a different number (or transfer you to that number).

About 2 weeks ago I traveled to the PNW and when I got back, I logged in on chase and saw a purchase of $500 on adidas online store. I called chase right away and they sent me a new card a day or 2 later. I think these credit card thieves are making the most of it before the chip switch.

Yeah man, that happened to me 3 times already.

1st.) BOFA- They caught a fraud charge from someone buying 180$ of merchandise at Kohl's in Massachusetts. Nope, don't live there, wouldn't charge there. Closed and sent me a new card.
2.) BOFA- Again, last month someone tried to buy Gas at Hess in New York and some stuff at 7-11. Nope. Still not me. Closed that also and sent me a new card with an EMV Chip. Praying this one doesn't get any fraud charges.
3.) Citi- Called me at work asking me if I am in Wisconsin, and spent 130$ and 250$, I forget where. Nope, not there either. Closed and sent me a new card.

I wonder where these people are getting my card info from...Good thing Chase caught it. My dad has a 13k limit with Citi, and someone tried to run 3k on it. Thankfully they caught it, but catching these people are difficult.
