Chase Slate to Freedom Product Change Help needed

Postby rsudhakar948 » Wed Oct 08, 2014 10:09 pm

I am a chase Slate credit card holder Since 2010.

This is what’s happening with me lately. Generally, when I go for shopping or restaurant or Gas or whenever I make any purchase. I lean towards my Bank of America credit card and Citi Master card. I don’t use chase slate as I don’t get any rewards from chase Slate.

I spoke to customer care over the phone about Chase Slate to Chase freedom. I heard a big NO from the customer care representative. Instead of changing the product for a loyal customer . The representative asked me to apply for new chase freedom credit card. I already have citi master and boa Visa. and i also have chase slate. I dont have a reason to open chase freedom . Instead my life would be lot easier and less complicated if chase allows to change my chase slate to chase freedom.

I really need help. how should i approach them. Being a loyal customer of chase for past 4 years, i didn't expect the representative treating me this way.

any inputs and thoughts are highly appreciated

Have you tried sending SM to request product change? That might have better chance than talking on the phone.
Citi Forward Visa $5000 10/2012 | American Express Blue Cash Everyday $8000 2/2014 | Discover it $7000 5/2014
Chase Freedom Visa Signature $7000 6/2014 | Citi ThankYou Premier Visa Signature $5000 1/2015
All EMV.

hello sir, i did try the secure message and this is the reply

Thank you for contacting Chase regarding your concerns.

I understand that you wish to change from a Chase Slate
account to a Freedom Card and your account was opened on
November 17, 2010. I apologize for the information
provided in the previous email.

I regret to inform you that at this time, I'm unable to
change your account to a different product. I apologize
for any inconvenience this may cause you.

As an alternative, you may apply for a new Freedom
product.

New applications are available on-line at our secure
website. Please visit our website referenced below for the
most current offers and terms available:
http://www.creditcards.chase.com

When selecting the credit card that best meets your needs,
please remember that our policy no longer allows for
customers to have more than one credit card in the same
product. Applications for a card product you already have
may not be eligible for approval.

Further, I am not able to provide a specific date that
when the product change option will be available for your
account. Let me assure you that the option being
unavailable is not based on your creditworthiness. Also, I
regret to inform you that we are unable to provide a
specific reason why the option to change to is
unavailable. However, the following criteria determines
product change eligibility:

- The system checks for good status
- The system verifies that the customer has been with the
bank for 12 months or longer
-The system assessed the customer?s ability to pay
- If the customer meets all previous requirements, the
system will show eligible products in the workflow

If you have any further questions, please reply using the
Secure Message Center.

otter's method seems to work better on chase, I believe the only PC's you can do with them now is something like "Sapphire" to "Sapphire Preferred".

They are really good about moving credit limits, they let me combine $30K from an account I closed with $34K on an existing account... That's a pretty darn high credit limit in my opinion :-)
Everyday Preferred $45K | Amex Platinum NPSL | Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve $45K | Delta Platinum $30K | Chase Sapphire Preferred $64K | Citi Hilton HHonors $45K | Discover IT $25K

Similar thing happened to me; slightly different but similar. I have had my Slate MasterCard (now a Visa) since 2001. I also have a Freedom Visa Signature from 2010. I sent a secured message asking if my Slate could be upgraded to a Sapphire since I already have the Freedom. They responded that I could only upgrade to a Freedom. I asked if it would be a Visa Signature and they responded "no." Banks don't really seem to care about loyalty anymore. I also received the flippant response that I "should apply for a new account that better meets my needs." Yeah, no thanks. I'd rather keep my 13 year old account open and make it more beneficial. If anything though, Chase is good for their sign up offers. They don't seem to mind giving away free money.

Before you give up maybe try their Executive Office to see if they will do it for you.

Finally, I was able to do a product change from CHASE SLATE to CHASE Freedom. I spoke to the Chase Executive office in IL. Here is the number for chase Executive office --> 888-622-7547

I thank you CC Deville . I truly appreciate your help in driving me in the correct direction about the executive office.

Please be polite to them and try to be as convincing as possible. I have only one card with chase that is CHASE SLATE. I was really in need of a Rewards card, as i no longer require a BALANCE Transfer credit card. After talking to speaking to the executive office. They were able to product change from chase Slate to Chase Freedom.

Intitally i tried different ways, buy calling customer care, buy sending a message directly form chase.com using chase Secure Message . All the time i was told that , "They are not able to a product change during this time". Finally after talking to Chase Executive office, i got switched from chase slate to chase freedom.

I hope this info helps some one else, as i got lot of useful information from this forum. I would like to pay back.

Glad it worked out for you. The Chase Freedom is a lot more beneficial than Slate for sure.

see, I'm a fan of freedom of speech and you're entitled to your opinion but that's why you have your own thread about how fugly it is

no need to rain on other peoples parade

rsudhakar948, congrats and getting what you wanted, sometimes it's just a matter of being persistent, especially considering that both are no annual fee and I wonder if it has anything to do with the apr on the slate; what was it if you don't mind me asking and were you able to retain it?
