All the times I've spoken with a CapOne representative, they spoke perfect English in a very professional manner. Either I got really lucky, or they're changing things recently?? I used to have a Platinum CC too, so not QS yet.

If CapOne really is trying to rebuild their reputation, they still have a ways to go. The recent flood of positive stories is a good sign, but obviously not a complete transformation. I'm glad you were able to get all those upgrades in your CL and APR! Congrats!

[quote="CarefulBuilder14"]There are definitely quite a few recent anecdotes about people having a pleasant experience dealing with CO's customer service and getting PCs and credit limit increases easily. On older threads, those pleasant experiences were pretty rare.

CO still has a lot to make up for in improving its reputation - especially in how it treated many of its long-term, low-risk Platinum customers who wanted a CLI or to PC into a rewards card but were told they couldn't and would have to get a new account. Some of those stories gave CO a reputation it deserved. People who had QS or Venture cards fared better in getting good treatment./QUOTE]

There is no substitute for experience: while a few newcomers to Capital One may have experienced incredible CLI increases and APR decreases, there are many (see quote above) who have long running accounts (13 years in my case), and absolutely perfect payment histories, who have been forever stuck at one credit limit, and a marginally poor (over 15%) APR. I am one of those people. I have had a major credit card since my 21st birthday in 1973, and possessed every brand of major card available to the public in the U.S. If I could charge my full credit limit on any one card in one transaction (not allowed by many vendors), I could put two of my cards together and buy a brand new Mercedes Benz, and have money left to pay for insurance. But Capital One treats me like I don't exist (unless I demand something), and won't budge on CLI or APR after all this time. I've asked for a fancy-schmantzy World Elite Mastercard a few times, and was told again and again they "can't do it, the system has to approve you...". So, I use my World Mastercard Venture Card to buy lunch, buy something at the Home Depot, something cheap on Ebay, etc. They don't get my "major business". Oh yes, I don't particularly appreciate the overseas call centers either. At least Chase has SOME American agents on call during the daytime hours. P.S. Everything I have written above is factual.

Ahhh...see, stories like that and my shotty experience with CO and low limits so far makes really consider leaving them and focusing my efforts elsewhere.

I just PC'd to a Quicksilver, but still, who knows if that will actually do any good for my next CLI.

Despite opting out of all mailed card and insurance offers a few weeks ago, CO is still sending me QS invitations.

So I call them to get off their mailing list immediately as they clearly haven't updated it recently.

They have me go through a long and unnecessarily long and complex menu and removal process, and at the end the recording insists my phone number isn't valid, so they wouldn't let me off their mailing list.

I just hope they update that list soon.

Amex has stopped sending invitations - why won't CO?

I know some people don't like Discover for the low limits they give, but that call just reminded me of the vast gap in customer service quality that remains between those companies.

Officially the opt-out is said to take effect after up to 60 days of filing.

Btw did they send mails to you yesterday? If so, I understand, as they sent new QS invitations to my old address yesterday.

After applying for the BCE, Amex no longer sends invitations to me. When checking pre-approval on Amex site it only says to add more perks to membership.

The most recent invitation was today and there was one other last week.

A 60 day delay is reasonable, I suppose. I'll just wait for it to kick in rather than deal with the CO phone system again.

I guess CO figures that if I've gone to the effort of calling them to stop their mailings, they have no incentive to make things easy for me with a simple removal process.
