Don't get the ebay mc

Postby fixmycredit92 » Sat Sep 13, 2014 1:35 am

Please read this before EVER considering applying for one.

It was bad enough they send me this card by mistake when they were supposed to send me a paypal one.

I got an offer for $30 as a statement credit if I make a purchase by 9/20/2014, no min spend, at eBay.com ONLY.

How "convenient" of them that this card showed up 3 days later from the others, even though they were batched at the same time.

But here is where the final straw is broken.

This card takes FOUR BUSINESS DAYS once activated to "link" to your paypal account. This was confirmed by 3 reps and a supervisor.,

There is NO SEPARATE CARD WEBSITE. It's handled from your paypal account. There is no way to enroll your card, you must wait 4 days.

So in the four business days proceeding activating your card, you cannot:

1. Make a purchase on eBay. This effectively gives two whole days to use the $30 offer. The card HAS to link to your paypal account first.

2. Check your balance.

3. See any activity on your card.

4. Pay your bill, balance, etc.

I feel better though. I think I maybe just got my first prime cards. I applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Citi Double Cash and they both gave me the pending message. Usually when I get the pending message I usually get approved. Wish me luck!

What use would you have for the CSP even if you were to get approved for it? You said you applied for the Freedom like a bunch of times and couldn't get it and you only recently just went on some app spree to get a bunch of store cards. I'm sure that will go over well on recon. And I think that 30 dollar offer was a pretty weak reason to get that card in the first place.

I'm not going to repeat the advice dozens of people, myself included, must have given fmc92 before, as it clearly isn't sticking - if his or her alleged credit history is to be believed in the first place.

Regarding the eBay card, though, the rewards aren't good, either. For others' convenience: http://creditcardforum.com/rewards/1044-ebay-credit-card-don-t-apply-without-reading.html

My god. Looks like there is some serious need of the electric fence.

I suppose someone with several dozen inquiries could trigger a file split on a credit report, even if no particular account has been open for long. That might confuse Chase and Citi enough to create a pending message if the computer knows it has inaccurate or incomplete data.

Split files have happened, but I don't know much about them or if they still happen.

Knowing how conservative Citi is with their cards and how they don't like seeing many inquiries on one's CR in the past six months, I highly doubt he's going to be approved for it, even on recon and a CSP, after having like a low limit secured Wells Fargo and Discover card and a Fingerhut card prior before all of this, I just don't see that happening either. I don't even know if this guy is for real anymore.

FMC92: I think you are somehow confused... some things in life (perhaps most things) the correct strategy is to try, try, and try again. If you're looking for a job, you're better off putting in applications at 100 different places than 10. If you're trying to break a personal record, let's say, on bench pressing- you're better off trying multiple times rather than just a few or one time.

Other things not so much so. If you ask the same girl out once and she says no... she's not likely to say yes if you keep on asking her out. And if you ask out every girl you meet, word is going to get out that you're desperate and no girl is going to say yes (not unless they're a slvt or have extreme issues).

The "ask a girl" out is actually pretty similar to the credit card thing. If you apply for every card under the sun multiple times, you're chances of getting a good card decrease tremendously and Credit One and Fingerhut are the only ones you are going to "score".Be happy you're in with GE because that's the best you're likely to get...

And your chances of getting a CSP are almost as good as me applying for an Amex Everyday card, coming home from work a few days later and finding Tina Fey in my bed in a leather teddy ready to give me my ED card (and more). Okay, so your odds of getting a CSP aren't even that good- get your arse in the garden (or all three since you seem to think there is one for each CRA) and stay there with Lexie and the rest of the FICO faithful).
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]
Sometimes in my Wallet:
  • GM BuyPower WEMC $5000[9-14]
  • Wells Fargo Propel 365 Amex $7000[4-14]
  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]
In my sockdrawer: Amex BCE $1000[10-13, bd 91], OCCU Duck $10000 [11-13], The Sportsman's Guide Visa $8000[8-14], Chase Slate $4000 [9-14]Delta Gold Amex $2000 [2-15 bd 91], Diners Club MC $20000 [10-14] Commerce Bank Visa $2000 [3-15] Citi Double Cash $1000 [3-15]
Total CL: $90450

Since he has a 1200 limit Barclays Apple Visa card, I think this is the last thing someone like him with a very shaky credit history should even try doing because of the chance that they might close the card if he got too many new accounts in a short timespan after just getting approved for that card.
