MasterCard World Elite benefits

Postby RackDaddy » Thu Sep 04, 2014 2:53 pm

I received a letter yesterday (and email today) stating that my Barclay Arrival+ was being "upgraded to World Elite status". I read the brochure and even visited the website but I'm not exactly sure what all of this is going to get me.

I mean, I can read English fairly well, but I can't really see any practical reason why I would need this. (My private jet requirements are fairly minimal..). I've heard of the concierge services before, but I'm 95% certain that I can use my smartphone to bring up OpenTable or Expedia quicker than I can call a number and have someone do the same thing (for a higher fee) for me.

So can anyone explain a practical, real-world scenario where you could (or have) used World Elite? Thanks in advance! :D

First off, it doesn't cost you anything above and beyond the World MC.

I assume, but can't verify, that benefit limits are higher on things like trip interruption, lost or delayed luggage, purchase protection, etc.

You could use one just as you'd use any other MasterCart tier. As for the tier-specific benefits it's up to you to determine if they're useful to you or not. If you don't see the point then don't fret over it and consider it just gravy.

Honestly, the reason I asked is because I had seen other threads on this forum that discussed peoples efforts to receive World Elite status. However, I didn't see where people actually talked about why they wanted them.. The benefits (to me) don't appear practical, so I'm assuming there is something I'm not seeing.

I thought the WEMC Arrival+ was prettier. Other than that, I didn't care; I already had a WEMC Ink card.

Oh, yeah. My old Ink was WEMC. My new one is Visa Signature. Regardless, I thought it was pretty.

Wow...I just had this same question from a friend of mine not 15 minutes ago. He just got the card and he said he didn't think he'd have much use for the benefits in spite of the fact that he does a fairly decent amount of traveling. I told him there are tons of travel benefits and the concierge is just gravy. I have used the concierge services that my various cards offer on occasion and it's just nice to have them. My Escape concierge has come up with a couple of great gift ideas, made restaurant suggestions and reservations, and the one time I had a flight cancellation, I just called them up and they took care of contacting the airline and rebooking a better flight for me than what the airline rebooked me on. Moreover, as I had to spend the night in the city I was affected in, the concierge first booked me into a hotel and reminded me that my trip interruption insurance would cover the cost. He said to charge the hotel to the card, get documentation supporting the flight cancellation and I was good to go. It certainly made me feel 100% better about a flight interruption!
