CapOne Auto CLI

Postby popamode72 » Wed Sep 03, 2014 10:06 pm

I know CapOne gets a lot of hate around here and I really thought that I was only gonna get my limit increased to 750 dollars after the Credit Steps program since that was the preapproved limit it would be increased to but I just logged into my account like an hour before midnight and discovered that they raised it by 1K, so it's more than what I still have with Citi, despite having a card with them 6 months longer basically.

Probably going to close my Wells Fargo card in the near future unless it will continue to help with my score on the history side of things. Not sure what I wanna do yet but that card is looking more and more useless to me now and it's a shame because it was one of the cards I had wanted the most originally at one point before I started learning a lot more about cards and rewards thanks to sites like this.

Citi probably would never do auto CLI--at least never for me. You can request online, just notice if it says the following when you click on the request CLI link:
It's easy to find out if you qualify for a credit limit increase. A credit bureau report will not be requested and you will receive an instant decision.

Generally you can request once every 6 months. I have had the Forward increased twice.
Citi Forward Visa $5000 10/2012 | American Express Blue Cash Everyday $8000 2/2014 | Discover it $7000 5/2014
Chase Freedom Visa Signature $7000 6/2014 | Citi ThankYou Premier Visa Signature $5000 1/2015
All EMV.

I've actually gotten that specific version of the message but have always been shot down for a CLI so I gave up on that for the most part. My account is going to be a year old in a couple of days though on September 7th.

What is this credit steps program?

Sounds like CO is bringing the love recently.

You basically start out with a specific limit with CapOne and if you make 5 monthly payments on time that's how you get the CLI by the 6th statement.

CapitalOne actually offered me a CLI of 1.5k I think. Unfortunately, they sent it by mail (seriously?) and it was during the time I was moving apartments. It was one of the envelopes that had to forward to my new address. By the time I got it, the offer expired :(

Chase Sapphire Preferred | 09/2014 | $10,300
Chase Sapphire | 05/2010 | $5,000
Chase Freedom | 01/2013 | $5,500
CapitalOne Quicksilver | 01/2013 | $2,500
American Express TrueEarnings | 08/2014 | $5,500
Victoria's Secret Angel Card | 04/2011 | $600

FICO | 09/2014 | Experian 738 | Equifax 706 | TransUnion 701

Hmmmmm that's weird. CapOne CLI requests are always soft pulls so maybe you'd still be eligible for something like that. Wouldn't hurt to try.

Haha, I've been thinking about it, but I'm considering attempting PCing the card to Quicksilver, since the Platinum has no benefits to offer me besides the 0% APR which ended.

Yup. That's a great idea. The Quicksilver I have now was actually a Journey card before the upgrade several months back.
