Barclaycard Arrival W(E?)MC

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Wed Aug 27, 2014 1:27 pm

As I look at my 2015 possible additions, I am considering the Arrival if I like my Sallie Mae experience with Barclays.

(Edit: As it would be the card I'd make all travel purchases with, I figure some access to a decent concierge service could be useful. I know it probably won't be nearly as useful as a Platinum Amex. I'm just curious if 'planting a seed' with getting the account established within the next year could result in such perks when I spend more on it in future years. Maybe it would be best to just wait and get a Arrival+ or Platinum when I'd be making better use of it.)

Can the no-AF version of the Barclaycard Arrival (not the Arrival +) ever become a World Elite MC with enough time and $2000 per year use? For that matter, other than the GM/Capital One card, are there any no-AF World Elite Mastercard options?

I know in some cases you can call and have the AF waived on cards like the Arrival+, but I wouldn't use the card enough for such a request to carry much weight.

I`m also looking to apply for the Arrival plus. I doubt the normal Arrival card will be upgraded to a world elite since they try and make up their services with the fees.

That does make sense - and anyone who spent a lot on the card would be better off to just get an Arrival+ for the better rewards.

Also, if I end up traveling enough to justify a separate rewards program long-term, I would probably just be better off getting an Amex Platinum for the upgrades and perks.

well if you wouldn't mind living with an inquiry for the next 2 years I would say- Apply for the Arrival+ go for the 40k points($300)..get the points use them(or transfer them out) and then close the card before the AF is due.

As for the Amex Platinum yeah- once I travel more I may be upgrading to that card- complimentary admission to go into the Centurion Lounge! (save $50 per visit)
