That CapOne card I have was basically the second card I was ever able to get and before the approvals from Discover, Amex and Chase really started to set in.

another reason I don't like C/o is that they take their time to give a credit limit increase- curious on how long they will take to increase your limit.

Some people on MyFico have said they've gotten auto CLIs after the sixth statement. I'm just about done with my Credit Steps program so I have no idea if I'm going to get anything beyond 750 dollars, which was my preapproved new CL from the beginning. Some people have actually gotten more than that.

Citi in my experience has been way stricter in terms of giving CLs. They kept telling me they wanted to see like a year of credit history with my college card with them. Meanwhile Amex has been the absolute best for me when it's come to getting CLIs in a short amount of time with 3x possibility.

Yeah amex was the first one to increase my limit in the first 6 months of being a card memeber.. unlike discover that took a little over a year.. Then chase gave me an increase without letting me know 4 months after getting my CSP.

While Capital One kept sending mail offers, Citi sent the Diamond Preferred offer with 19.99% APR. Also Chase mailed Slate and Freedom. AMEX also sent offers but once after I applied they no longer send offers to me.

Time frame was like:
Capital One began sending since the end of last year, never ceased.
AMEX began at the end of last year. Sent Green, Blue Sky and Blue Cash Everyday. All came under my name and each product was two mails together (i.e. they sent two BCE offers at the same time, though sign-up bonuses are different). Stopped sending after applying.
Citi sent Diamond Preferred since around March, during the summer they stopped for a while and recently began sending again.
Chase began sending Slate since May, Freedom since June. Even after applying for Freedom they still sent both Slate and Freedom for a while. Appears have stopped sending recently.
Citi Forward Visa $5000 10/2012 | American Express Blue Cash Everyday $8000 2/2014 | Discover it $7000 5/2014
Chase Freedom Visa Signature $7000 6/2014 | Citi ThankYou Premier Visa Signature $5000 1/2015
All EMV.

I have never had a Capital One product so no idea about customer loyalty for me.

I do see the theory make perfect sense--they try to offer better cash back after seeing someone has more accounts with competitors. Also this change from the Platinum is Quicksilver, offering 1.5% cash back, trying to be more competitive to commonly 1% things. Also they are simply changing the product, but they seem to think customers care less about the rate.

However, it seems like this switch is universal, so everyone receiving Capital One offers now get the Quicksilver mails. People around me have their envelopes marked Visa now, even they don't have new accounts with other lenders. Probably they eventually realized the Platinum has no value at all, and sending that offer turns out to be an undoubtful waste of money.

The unsecured, zero-reward, no AF card market is kind of odd. You'd think people would either be quickly moving up or down in terms of what cards they can get with improving or declining credit. The credit quality that gets an unsecured CO Platinum is a sort of state of limbo.

Yet some people will keep CO Platinum cards for years and years- either not realizing what else is available, or just keeping it open to show an old account.

Maybe CO wants to get back some of the people with bad credit who are getting $5-10k limits from Discover!

(I am happy with my It but go over Discover's financial statement and you'll see their interest income is much, much higher than their discount revenue. They don't make their money from people who PIF. They like big but manageable balances being carried from month to month. Hence the crazy big limits when they will become someone's favorite card and earn lots of interest after the first year.)
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG, Prestige (retention)
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt
SD with activity alerts, might close: Arrival

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech, BofA Travel PH, Aviator Red

Easy there Tonto. Took only 6 months to get mine. $5K to $7.5K automatically.

While Discover is trying to hang in there with its $1.2K limit

I am interested to see what Barclay and Citi are like. Hopefully I meet spend pretty quickly on the AAdvantage card and I might apply to the ED card offer I got. APR at 12.99% (I never plan to carry a balance, but just in case that would be the lowest of all my cards); $1,000 spend for 15,000 MRs would go nicely with the 50,000 MRs I have coming. Nice little welcome present from AMEX.
