citi customer service story

Postby MB131174 » Fri Aug 22, 2014 8:29 pm

So I have the Citi AA WMC (Yes, I know. I just ranted against airline cards!) Well, for some reason I decided to log on to that tonight to just to a quick check to make sure all looked well. I got a notice a new card is on the way. I didn't order one so I called to find out why a new card is being sent, figuring it was fraud. Some woman answered the phone, gave a very unpronounceable foreign name, but was speaking PERFECT American-accented English and said she was in Kentucky. Hmmmm..... OK. So I asked what was going on and she said all that was happening was my card was being upgraded to the World Elite MasterCard and it's being overnighted to me. Explained the upgraded benefits to the card and that the annual fee would still be $95. OK then. On top of that, getting to a live person was actually quite easy. Maybe I should reconsider my use of Discover and re-look at using this card and not using it for "planned trips", but saving the miles up and going wherever I can the dates I want to when I have the miles. Kinda like a mystery destination trip. Kinda intriguing.

They pulled the same crap with me with my Best Buy card and "upgraded" me to a Mastercard... Which had an $85 annual fee. After yelling at the CSR for about half an hour, he "managed to cancel it". Besides that, no issues with Citi.

They weren't "pulling any crap" with me. They were simply upgrading my World MasterCard to a World Elite MasterCard, which had better benefits and to be honest, decent customer service. Almost like Olive Garden giving you a free dessert w/o asking for it.

That's a good thing they upgraded you like that. I'd reconsider too.

I am reconsidering. What I'm thinking of doing is using the miles for the 40,000 RT saver flights to Europe as "bonus vacations". What I'd do is pay for flight I know I need/want to take, and use the "bonus vacations" to explore new places. For example - dates I can travel, find what's available by playing around. Say there are flights to Helsinki available and I've never been to Helsinki, why not?! Chance to explore new places for cheap.

Just need to think about what I want to do long term.

I meant making an account change without letting you know. It's fine if they don't ask for it, but I don't care for that kind of surprise very much. If all they told me was that a new card was on the way rather than that I've been upgraded and I'm getting a new card, it would cause some unnecessary stress and make me freak out about fraud.

They didn't make any changes to the actual account. Just the type of MasterCard was changed.

So I began to consider some cities I've never been to, to see what I could find on AA. Picking some dates in November and being flexible I chose to look at: Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Helsinki, Stockholm and Budapest. All but ONE combination I tried (a Friday - Thursday for Buenos Aires) would come back "Sorry, but this flight is no longer available" and I would have to start all over again. What a bunch of male cow poop. No wonder I was rallying against airline cards the other day. All hail Discover!

Forget the Citi card upgrade. I want to know how you manged a free desert at Olive Garden? Were you celebrating a birthday?

I just made that up. I've never been offered free dessert at the OG. #fail
