Chase Sapphire Preferred Changes

Postby Obi-dan » Thu Aug 21, 2014 2:55 pm

Just got an email that Chase will be dropping the 7% dividend and the extra point on travel booked through their portal. There are some other changes but these are the two points that jumped out at me.

If this has already been bandied about I apologize but didn't see it on the boards. It's been awhile since I have been on the site.

This is why I like cashback cards. Sure they can change stuff there too, but at least you have the cash you have.

I remember that someone has confirmed the 7% dividend would still be there until Dec 2015. And I think the UR points is still valuable.

I cleaned up in the first year with my CSP. I only use it at restaurants and for travel related expenses so I'm always earning at least 2x. A few times I used the shopping portal to earn bonus points and when it is all said and done I earned an average of 4x UR points for the >$20k I put on the card. Used wisely UR points can be very valuable.

They are like any other program including CB, if you don't use it wisely you are only cheating yourself. With Discover, I only redeem for GCs that are on sale to stretch my CB even further.

The loss of the 7% and extra point is a downer for sure, but you can still do well with a little effort. As long as the card is making me $$ I'll keep it.

Of course YMMV.

It does look like CSP picked up primary collision for rentals though, bummer I just cancelled mine.
