how to get an increase after getting approved for that limit ?

Postby marlonbishop » Thu Aug 21, 2014 2:09 pm

... I've seen people who recently get approved for a certain credit limit and they call to see if they can get a little more and usually end up getting more limit after being approved. For my chase freedom how to i approach this situation without getting one more hard inq.

so many things to learn grrr :money:
BoA Cash Rewards $4000
Macy's $1000
Discover it $5000
Chase Sapphire Preferred $5000
Chase Freedom $2000
Amex Green NPSL
Amex Gold Premier Rewards NPSL

From what I heard, requested CLIs with Chase are always HPs but I've heard of people getting auto CLIs with them as well with no HP.

It's a good thing you stopped her. They probably would have declined you and it would have cost you one or two hard pulls for nothing.

Suggest you give it 6 months and see if you get an auto CLI - possible but not a given by any means it's always YMMV, and if not and you can take a hard pull or two, ask after 6 months to a year.

Personally since re-establishing ties with them I have never gotten an auto CLI. But I did burn them years ago, and today I don't really use their card so I can see their point of view. Since I don't use my Freedom I don't care and it does have a good limit, but as mentioned it's always YMMV.

My mom was recently approved for a Chase Slate that I recommended for 15 months of 0% APR for her balance transfers. She was given a little over $3K and needed $5K for the transfers. She called and asked for a higher limit to facilitate the balance transfer; cost her a second HP. Other banks will give higher limits when they found out a balance transfer will be processed; not Chase. It really does seem to be that all customer initiated CLI's will result in an HP. I am sure some smarta$s will come and say that they got away with an increase without an HP after opening a card, but yeah; for the rest of us mortals it will cost.

I was approved for a Freedom Visa Signature 11/2010 with $7,000. With moderate usage I was given an auto CLI to $10,000 in 8/2011. No auto CLIs since. $10K is plenty.

How long did it take you to get back in with Chase after you burned them?
