Whats wrong with Capital One?

Postby cashinout » Thu Aug 07, 2014 10:53 am

So it starts like this i had a card with them that for some reason could never recv a CLI so i cxl it. The person on the line said i should do this and apply for another one now mind you all of my cards are well into the thousands, so i did this and it was approved but guess the limit wait for it wait for it 300.00 WTF is this my actual FICO is 758 and i have no delinquent or collection accounts. get this they told me to wait until the card comes and i can go online to get CLI once the card arrives. Now I explained to the guy that this is not true as in the past if you hit request CLI on a card you just got via an online link the computer will simply respond with the request cannot be completed new account, or you have not had the account long enough to request an increase. I explained give me someone in underwriting or a real person he said sorry they do not do this capital one only allows them to assist us with requesting it by giving us instructions on using the online link, i said thank you but close this approved app no need to send me a card thats 300.00. this is just nuts i will never apply for anything with capital one again.

Which card did you apply/reapply for?

If CO Platinum, I think everyone gets that limit when they apply (or reapply). You have good other cards, so I'm a little surprised they didn't offer a CLI to keep you. Upgrading to a QS might get a bigger CL.

If QS or Venture, I am a little surprised that they gave someone with your current cards such a low limit. They tend to be nicer to customers with prime alternatives.

You have opened at least three other cards since April, and maybe that put them off?

So you have a 758 FICO with no baddies... and a couple Amex cards, a CSP, and several other prime cards- why would you even bother with Cap One? You did half of it right- you closed the Crap One card with a toy limit. The right thing to do would have been to walk away and not look back. Instead, you applied for another Crap One card, took a pull on all three bureaus and got another toy limit. The only way to make this a positive experience is to chalk it up to a life lesson... never get a card unless it serves a purpose. With your arsenal of current cards- I can't see any of Cap One's cards doing much for you- maybe the quicksilver if you have a ton of off category spending. Even then, I don't think the extra 0.5% is worth the Crap One Triple Pull(tm).
In my Wallet:

I agree with the others, cashinout. I'm not sure which card you wanted, but there really isn't any substantial benefit for you with any CO card. You have so many other great cards that are suitable for everyday spending and travel. Don't let the annual fees go to waste!

I suspect the mistake you made was applying for the same card you had, instead of one of their "prime" cards like Quicksilver.

You could have an 800 score, and if you apply for one of their subprime cards, you will get a low limit that will give you probably one CLI ever, and they will still charge you a 39 annual fee. It doesn't matter to them what your credit is if you apply for one of those cards that is what you get - what you applied for.

Had you applied for Venture or Quicksilver, things would surely have been different but those are different cards aimed at different people than the ones who normally apply for their subprime cards.

Listening to anything a Cap One CSR tells you is just not something you should ever do. They have no clue what they are doing or what they are talking about, and if you are lucky you just won't understand them well enough to take their bad advice.

I bothered because i wanted a particular card with them for the cash back as i am ending my AMEX Blue since i haven't really used it much and the capital one had better cash back so thats why i bothered with such a bum bank and my wife has a card with them thats 9k the same one i was applying for however no worries as i told them to tear it up don't even send it out. I will just go with the AMEX everyday over my blue cash card with them.

CarefulBuilder14 I had applied for that quicksilver for the cash back most of my cards are travel rewards i just wanted a simple every day cash back card but this is not for me seeing that they assign such a low amount and i should have read the fine print it says on the offer that everyone has at least a min of 300.00 that should have been a sign there. I think they suck as a bank no real person to review and approve limits all automated thats nuts

I'd definitely have nothing to do with CO, but I don't think that particular section of fine print matters. Discover has a minimum $500 credit line mentioned in the fine print and most people have a CL at least twice that.

First post.

I recently applied for and was approved for the Cap One Venture One card with Visa Signature(10k limit). So far I'm happy with the card, granted I've had it for a very short time and have not had to deal with CSRs and the like, but so far so good.

Why all the hate? I ask because it seems like you all know something I may not.

Thanks.
