Chase Credit Report Question

Postby popamode72 » Sun Jul 06, 2014 11:34 am

I think I saw someone around here mentioning that you could freeze your credit reports and leave a specific one open if you need to apply for a card like the ones from Chase. I checked my FICO scores for Equifax and saw that's where they sometimes pull from as well as Experian and that happens to have the least amount of inquiries out of the two so I'm wondering if that's possible to do just that if I wanna go for one of their cards say this October (a bunch of other inquiries aren't gonna be factored into my score anymore because they will all turn a year old) and if there's anything else I need to know before doing that. Thanks.

It's possible to do that but it's also possible it won't work. When I've applied for their cards in recent years they have always pulled both TU and EX for me - every single time, even for CLI requests.

If you freeze one so they can't pull, it is possible that they will simply decline unless you unfreeze and let them pull it. So it could work or it could backfire right in your face. If you are marginal to get approved in your own mind, might be better to just wait for a better time to apply than try that little trick. Their recons are as good as anyone though to be honest.

Alright. I'll definitely look into reconning if they decline my app then. Don't wanna risk any possible chance that I would have gotten the card but screwed up due to something like that.

I really like how Barclays just pulls from TU exclusively here so if I don't get either the Chase Freedom or their Amazon card, I'll just go ahead and try one of their cards like their Sallie Mae Mastercard. I'm also wondering if I did the Freedom and Amazon cards on the same day that they might use the same inquiry even if I get turned down for one of the cards.
