Get Discover it. No foreign transaction fees and you get cash back when you use it.

I love my Capital One quicksilver card! No annual fees, & no foreign transaction fees make this an excellent choice. I've only had one problem with their customer service but it was my fault since i didn't let them know I'd be traveling out of the country. Also Capital One is very generous with the credit limit. Discover IT is another good choice but you'd have to deal with signing up for categories for the bonus 5% cash back. Capital One is a Visa so it's accepted almost everywhere. Discover isn't as widely accepted.

Besides the scripted responses from rep, I had never experience the issues people mentioned in this thread. I recently got an automatic CLI that doubled CL of the card I applied in June 2013. my payment to the card always post in 2 business days. with CHASE Freedom's 5% never match my spending because it's always off by one or two quarters, CO QS is the best none annual fee cash back card in my wallet.

I guess everyone has had different experience with CO

On the topic of alternative cards to CO Quicksilver, there is also the Fidelity Amex and Visa.

I haven't used any of the three, but I've heard the customer service that comes with the Fidelity cards is a bit better than CO (but not great) with slightly better cash back.

Fidelity Amex is the only competitor with 2%, but you can't cash it out like QS. Fidelity Visa is not as good as QS

I haven't had any problems out of CO customer service reps, but I also haven't had any major problems for them to deal with either. They did give me my highest limit to date as well, so they are good to go in my book.

I'm with bama87 on this: I have a long running 13 year old World MasterCard account with Cap One. My history with them is perfect. I never wait for a service rep. I never receive "scripted" answers: if I ask a question the rep. can't answer, they put me on hold and check with a supervisor. My APR is very low, and twice a year they send me "convenience checks" to cash (up to my credit limit, with no fees at all) at 2.99% valid for one year at that rate. There seems to be a higher tier of service for well established customers.

I haven't had any problems with Capital One. They gave me my first card. They don't really give CLI, so I only have one card with them. I prefer other cards.

Fidelity lets you take statement credits if I remember right. It's been a while since I had it.

It was a whole hell of a lot better than Cap One in every respect, even the CS. Cap One is bottom of the barrel in that regard. They may offer "prime" cards but there is no way in hell I'd have them in my wallet even if they offered 10% cash back. What's in my wallet? Not Cap One I can tell you that. It's an ok card to build or rebuild with but they are just not a "prime" type company - even with a "prime" card with them if you ever have a problem you'll have to go all the way to the EO to get it fixed because the script readers have no idea what they are doing - anything other than reading from scripts is beyond what they can do for you.

Why did you close the Fidelity Amex? I hear the fraud department at FIA is trigger-happy about declining 'unusual' transactions - was it the inconvenience of that?
